The University of Cincinnati football program is tied for No. 1 as "Biggest Losers" amid the major realignment of college sports leagues, according to Fox Sports senior college sports columnist Stewart Mandel.

Mandel, in a piece published online Thursday, lists American Athletic Conference programs UC and Connecticut as the No. 1 biggest football losers from realignment. Mandel writes:

The biggest losers

1) Cincinnati and Connecticut. Two schools that enjoyed unprecedented football success in the decade pre-realignment -- the Bearcats reached consecutive BCS bowls in 2008 and '09, while the Huskies, a I-AA program not long ago, went in 2010 -- have been relegated to second-tier status in the American. Both have lobbied unsuccessfully for better landing spots, most logically the ACC. While they can still contend for a New Year's Six bowl by winning their conference, they're likely to be frozen out of the College Football Playoff and now face recruiting disadvantages.

Cincinnati's best hope now is that the Big 12 eventually decides to add two, but that does not appear imminent. UConn ... may be stuck.

Haven't yet....need to start soon or those 08' and 09' seasons are going to start to feel like the 61' national championship.

The story itself is at least sympathetic to UC's plight, but once again the geniuses writing headlines for Cincinnati.com love to put UC and biggest loser in the same phrase.

As did our friend Tom Groeschen. Retweeted, too, no less.

Interesting that West Virginia was high on the losers list. Though I am hoping for a Big12 invite, that conference truly does suck. PLEASE find a way into the ACC.

Or maybe it's because the article is quoting the term used in the story they're referring to? Lighten up, guys.

Actually, right now the conference is great by pretty much all the popular measures: overall football, basketball and even baseball along with tv money of course. But of course everybody (outside of them it seems) sees significant challenges ahead with their current status.
