Does the ASun have soccer?
All schools have mens soccer except Kennesaw St. The ASUN also has women's lax.

I could see the ASUN letting the Belt keep NJIT's men's soccer for a year or two until the Belt finds a replacement.

No chance of that. The Sun Belt can get Incarnate Word or Houston Baptist from the WAC. The WAC has plenty of extra affiliates in that sport, like UNLV, AF, and SJSU. Sun Belt men's soccer will have to operate with five teams for a year, as Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word already have released their schedules.

Coastal Carolina??? 03-thumbsup

The announcement said "all sports" for '15-'16. And the A-Sun has men's soccer.

You were right. the NBC sports report made it seem like it was just basketball only, but I just saw the ticker on ESPN and that said all-sports.

Only 3 of the 6 (soon to be 5) men's soccer teams in the SBC are full members (GA State, GA Southern, Appalachian) so I wonder if they will continue to sponsor the sport at all.

Anyhow, congrats to NJIT and to the Atlantic Sun. Looks like a good match that should benefit both parties.

School - RPI
FGCU 140
NJIT 154
North Florida 165
SC Upstate 210
Northern Kentucky 265
Lipscomb 272
Kennesaw State 318
Stetson 335
Jacksonville 339

All sports. Everything but men's soccer is right away, men's soccer won't start until 2016 to allow for an orderly transition from the Sun Belt. I'd imagine the Sun Belt will scramble in the interim to find a replacement.

I can't help but feel that this is a placeholder until the MAAC, NEC or America East come to their senses and bring them aboard. But that could take years and/or another shake up in FBS leagues.

No doubt it is a marriage of convenience, but that is the nature of the Atlantic Sun - always has been, even when it was the Trans America Conference, it was that way.

Official release. Most of NJIT's sports join next year. Men's soccer will play in the Sun Belt in 2015 and join the ASun in 2016

Great news for NJIT. It'll be good for the existing Atlantic Sun teams too as they now have the opportunity to recruit in the basketball talent rich North Jersey/NYC area.

Closer than the great west

Definitely closer then the Great West and if the NEC or American East decide to expand (or lose a member), NJIT could get an invite from either one.

I think NJIT is positioning itself well for an eventual move to the NEC or America East. Indie to NEC or AE just wasn't in the cards obviously or it would have happened by now. The Atlantic Sun will give NJIT the opportunity to finally develop its athletic programs, academic reputation, and overall brand with some semblance of stability.

The AE was playing with NJIT.
Thats why NJIT jumped south.

It is strange seeing so many Hybrid conferences and the internal fightings going on. The CAA is not that stable since the football playing members wanted Stony Brook and Albany in for all sports, but I heard Hofstra did not. I think the football schools could break away a form a new conference. Not sure how serious Richmond or William & Mary are if the whole football schools decided they want FBS. Could we find that the whole D1 become more football schools against basketball schools? Maybe a major shifting of schools could get NJTech into one of the northeast conference.

Ideally America East would be the FCS conference for the East Coast, and the CAA would be a non-football conference:

AEC
Maine, New Hampshire, Albany, Stony Brook, Delaware, Towson, Richmond, Elon, William & Mary, James Madison (football affiliates Villanova and Rhode Island)

CAA
Northeastern, Hofstra, Drexel, Hartford, College of Charleston, Vermont, UMBC, Binghamton, UMass-Lowell, NJIT, UNC Wilmington

If James Madison and Stony Brook punch their FBS tickets to the MAC, America East can bring in Monmouth, who moves football from the Big South and all other sports from the MAAC. The last remaining spot could go to another school willing to play scholarship FCS football - perhaps CCSU would be interested in an upgrade as the only public school in the NEC, or Fordham may entertain moving its football program from the Patriot League.

That would be a better return on NJIT's $100million investment.

Kennesaw State will now be playing two New Jersey schools every year. New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in all A Sun sports and Monmouth U in Big South football.

Welcome to New Jersey04-cheers

As a result of NJIT and NKU moving, there are now 9 conferences with an odd number of teams:

America East (9)
American Athletic (11)
Atlantic Coast (15)
Big South (11)
Big West (9)
Metro Atlantic Athletic (11)
Mid-Eastern Athletic (13)
Southland (13)
Sun Belt (11)

The Mountain West also has 11, except in football where Hawaii gives them 12.

Also the Summit League has 9.
