Throw your scorn on the individual schools for not stepping up. They're the ones that have to pay for the upgrade. They could have financed modern production facilities anytime they wanted. The MAC is not going around doing it for anyone, nor could they.

I'm pretty surprised that Ball State hasn't upgraded yet given how their comm program is one of the best in the nation.

ESPN opened their 10yr contract with the MAC with 3yrs remaining last year so they could give the MAC an additional $8M/yr for the final 3yrs for precisely this upgrade.

Hey, how come you don't have EMU, BSU, and WMU with the 'ESPN'?

During year #2, won't 8 or 9 schools being doing ESPN3 broadcasts?

The rest will be one year behind...

So why the assumption that it was the MAC's independent decision to roll it out the way they have? The MAC works for the schools, and I've seen no reason to believe that it's not the schools who decide who's up next.

I'm saying I want to see more leadership from the MAC to ensure this is done the right way. Not too much to ask.

RE: Miami announces ESPN broadcast upgrades
The decision to upgrade is based entirely on the schools who are paying for it. Axemen is correct. Ohio has chosen to wait.

perimeter post is incorrect in the MAC is NOT getting an extra 8 million on the last 3 years and you wont find any links to support your claim. The agreement is that the MAC gets paid roughly the same as the last contract, until all 12 schools are upgraded and handing ESPN the feeds in roughly 2 more yeara, THEN it kicks in to $10 million per year.

1.4 million x 3 years + 10 million x 10 years = $104.2 million which is the total of the contract baseline. Consequently, $104.2 / 13 = $8.01 per year on average which is what McMurphy had reported. He then said the contract is $10 million per year starting after year 3. This lead some to believe it meant the first e years were 8 and then 10 but that is not correct. It is an AVERAGE of 8 over the entire contract and rises to 10 after year 3, but the first 3 yeara are 1.4 just like the last contract.

Ball State is plently ready to upgrade but may have contract issues to work out between SportsLink and theor existing broadcast station partners.

Im a bit surprised that BG and Toledo arent upgrading last due to Buckeye Cable Sports already producing most of theirbasketball games and providing ESPN3 feeds.

This year confirmed min. 3 uograde schools are - BG, EMU, Miami with Ball St, WMU, Toledo still maybe. Kent also has their own TV station like BG and might upgrade.

RE: Miami announces ESPN broadcast upgrades
I have a feeling Ball State will continue to produce SportsLink productions with their own logo for the next two years and feed it to their OTA partners and also ESPN3. They may be last in officially converting over when they will then be required to drop the SportsLink logos for ESPN logos and stop feeds to the OTA partners. Either way, Ball State will be feeding ESPN3 like they started to last year.

I'll find a link that EMU is getting some money, not too much, from the MAC to implement ESPN3.

EDIT:

There are also several line items for ESPN expenses.

It was reported in its (EMU) 2015-2016 athletic budget.

You're crazy.

But seriously...this isn't just about men's basketball.

To wit:
Quote:In year one, the RedHawks will produce the 35 events between volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and other special events. The schedule will include home men’s and women’s basketball games not selected by ESPN for national or regional distribution as well as selected home volleyball contests. Stay tuned to MURedHawks.com for more details as the season gets closer.

RE: Miami announces ESPN broadcast upgrades
Ohio U is in absolute control on whether they want the additional exposure if they want it. Nobody is holding them back from making the investment needed to upgrade if they want.

The EMU budget numbers show that ESPN is only reimbursing $100,000 and the other $1 million is paid by the school and not the MAC. No need to wait for $100k.

OU has decided not to spend the money this year. Maybe OU's AD should be asked why not.

now we're quoting EMU for accurate math numbers?

I understand that the schools are partially responsible, my issue is with the (lack of) leadership from the MAC offices on this roll out. Its been poorly communicated and poorly executed.

DO note that even if people from the MAC tell OHio or anybody else to upgrade it is the school that still decides and no amount of pressure from the MAC will change a thing. Remember the schools tell the MAC what to do not the other way around really. Unless there is a mandate from a number of schools on an issue the MAC is unable to force its members to do something like that. What you want is by far more of an individual school issue rather than a conference one.

As an aside the fact that so many lower attendance schools are doing it first may be a result of them thinking they need the exposure more than the high attendance schools. They may prioritize it more than say Ohio which feels more secure perhaps. You would have to ask Ohio why they want to wait.

This is also almost word-for-word what EMU also announced. Thirty five events to be produced from the Convo.

Ball State also announces ESPN3:

http://www.ballstatesports.com/ViewArtic...=210178402

2014: NIU, CMU, Buffalo
2015: Miami, EMU, BG, Toledo, Ball State

Maybe for 2015 - Western Michigan and Kent

For sure out in 2015 - Ohio U

Either way, 8 of 12 MAC schools are confirmed for this year leaving only 4 for next year and leaving the MAC fully converted to ESPN production studios by next year.
