Someone please tell me this is a joke or a mid season exhibition?

Quote:before wrapping up the tournament with a contest against in-town Eastern Mennonite

its a great way to add another local school into a tourney, and presumably draw a crowd during Thanksgiving week when the students have or are leaving, while giving your team some mid season practice.

Seems great for gate purposes. And you are good enough this year to not sweat losing hopefully.

OK I get that it's great "practice" and MAY help at the gate (doubtful in my mind) but that's gotta be a RPI killer. If JMU is as good as we hope, maybe an NIT bid is possible but not with D3 schools on your schedule.

In years past it counted 0 towards rpi but that may have changed.

Good looking schedule to me. Good regional matchups in UR, WVU, Marshall, Mason, and ECU, with several of those being at home.

I think this is correct. BUT... Either way, for RPI purposes by the selection committee, it wont hurt us... If a team’s RPI goes down as a result of a victory, that game is thrown out of the equation so that team is not penalized for a victory.

OMG...we are now playing DIII Mennonite schools from Harrisonburg? Maybe we can get even more ODAC programs on the schedule.

Thanks Jeffrey!

Wow a D3 school in the regular season. There's 350 some odd D1 schools and we can't find a single one to replace eastern Mennonite?

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule 2015-16
I can kinda understand the local interest of playing a small local school. It's fun. But this does nothing for our program and certainly won't do anything for our RPI. And if we lost somehow it would be the worst loss in program history.

Overall, I think it's a good job by Brady and co. There are some solid opponents on the schedule but I think the team can top out at 10-3

That I didn't know. Well at least it won't hurt but I still say to a joke to play a D3 school when there's many local schools that are D1 we could've picked up for this tournament to lessen the negative perception of playing D3. Heck even grab a CIAA D2 school!

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule 2015-16
We joke about moving our FB program to Div 3 to save on cost because our administration does not want FBS football and then the administration allows us to play a Div 3 ODAC team... Weak. The players will not get up for this game and neither can the fans. We will get EMU's best effort and our guys will be tired from the tournament and go at it lack luster. I would not be surprised if they beat us. This is a trap game.

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule 2015-16
My question with the Eastern Mennonite game is does it count toward the max games/total? Last year JMU played 13 OOC vs. D1 this year 13 OOC with 1 being against Eastern Mennonite. Last year JMU opened with a loss in an exhibition to Philadelphia U a ranked D2 team this year they play a d3 school mid season. I don't like it. I would have liked to see a game against another D1 school. Schools like Stephen Austin supposedly are having trouble getting games scheduled- maybe they didn't want to travel to the Convo. Aside from that you have to like the regional feel of the schedule- although I have a feeling that most of those teams are teams that JMU should beat (WVU notwithstanding).

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule 2015-16
I was going to poo-poo our "tournament" but it's for a good cause and it turns out UT Martin crushed South Carolina Upstate Community College after they beat us in the CAT tournament so I'm going to keep my mouth shut. I guess getting Oral helps as well. Definitely going to be showing up for Oral.

BUT! Here comes some butt hurt. As far as out of conference schedules here's our '91-'92 schedule for comparison. Keep in mind that is probably one of the last seasons I followed JMU basketball closely after moving out of state after graduation, until my reintroduction to this mess last year. Another point- we didn't sing high praise about out of conference "coups" like games with Richmond, ODU, East Carolina and Mason because they were in our friggin conference and we got to play them twice a year. Now where did I put that tube of industrial hemorrhoid cream...

Georgia Tech
Maryland Eastern Shore
UNLV
BYU
South Alabama
Mount St. Mary's
Coppin State
East Tennessee
New Orleans
Ole Miss
Oregon State
Penn State
Auburn
George Washington
