Great race. Does that really count as a school record since it's not an NCAA event?

He was representing University of Akron during the meet, so that would make it a school record.

Murphy's performance at the meet got a mention in LetsRun.com's recap of the men's 800 final

Hard to imagine Akron's coach would move him away from the 800 when it sure looks he could have a world-level future at that distance.

That's definitely a tough decision. He has always been more of distance guy, but after what he did this weekend, he has a legit shot at not only winning the NCAA championship, but qualifying for Rio. Can't imagine he would move back up with that on the line.

Then again, he did this not even being an 800 guy. Maybe his ceiling is even higher in the 1,500.

Pretty impressive feat.

Sounds like he's got footspeed, much like another MAC 800 runner who had some success as a big finisher. I would think he might toggle between 1500 and 800 for a bit to see how he fares in each event before settling on one to push for the Os.
