No Rice golfers advance to the U.S. Open field
In late May, two Rice golfers -- freshman Mitchell Meissner and incoming freshman Will Voetsch -- advanced through local qualifying into the field for yesterday's 36-hole sectional competitions that determine qualifiers for the U.S. Golf Association's Open Championship.

Alas, neither have made the field.

Voetsch finished near the middle of the 71 golfers vying for four spots in Purchase, N.Y. His two-round score was 8 shots higher than the qualifiers.

Meissner was slated to compete in the Dallas sectional, but he's not listed in the results. (Did he withdraw? Or did he move to a different sectional?)

This year's U.S. Open will be held June 15-21 at the Chambers Bay course in University Place, Wash.
