I think it's more important because at some point that blueblood school is going to get back into the mix for a championship and you can point to that win. Beating a Ill, Vany, uk, type program doesn't give you the pride or at some point saying you have a win over a school that plays for national championships.

But as pilot172000 pointed out...both are rare (name school and playing 1 or 2 loss school) and most of the time we are facing 4 or 5 loss schools and in that case you take the p5 6 loss team. So we are arguing 2 or 3 different things
I have a list of teams that I want Tech to play in a Bowl game. Then there is a second, third and fourth tier. This list does not take into account wins/losses. Just Name and Tradition. We all have that list somewhere in the back of our heads. Each Program/Fan is different. I have a second list that has the pecking order of Bowls that I would like to see Tech play in one day. I am an old school guy who still likes the pageantry of the New Years day game. Each one of these things Team, Record, Venue each determines what we call a successful season. Usually G5 Programs are lucky to just get one of these. Boise went 2 for 3 playing in the Fiesta Bowl with a 10+ win season but they played a 3 loss Arizona team who nobody really cared about. This stuff differs from team to team division to division so there is always room for debate.

The Arizona bowl was a nice add. I would say while the Americans bowl line-up isn't as strong as last years but its still slightly better than C-USA's' but not by much.
AAC CUSA
7 bowls 7 bowls
1 vs SEC. 1 vs Big 12
1 vs ACC
1 vs MWC. 2 vs MWC
2 vs CUSA. 2 vs AAC
1 vs MAC. 1 vs MAC
1 vs SunBelt. 1 vs SunBelt

The American has back up agreements with the Liberty and independence. Conference USA has a back up agreement with the independence also. This year the American is backing up Army in the Poinsettia bowl so that almost guarantees the AAC an 8th bowl if we have enough teams eligible.

On the surface it looks even but I would give a slight nod to CUSA

AAC CUSA
7 bowls 7 bowls
1 vs SEC. 1 vs Big 10/12 HoD Bowl is the best G5/P5 bowl out there.
1 vs ACC Military Bowl is a nice one for eastern teams
1 vs MWC. 2 vs MWC Arizona > Hawaii
2 vs CUSA. 2 vs AAC =
1 vs MAC. 1 vs MAC Boca > Bahamas
1 vs SunBelt. 1 vs SunBelt NO > Cure

Advantage CUSA...now that's for AAC odd years. Their even year Bowl line up are tops in the G5

This year AAC lineup is somewhat comparable to CUSA (even though we still have 2 "P5" opponents compared to 1 for CUSA) however, as you said in even years it's far better than either CUSA or MWC with 4 "P5" opponents.

However, CUSA has a great bowl lineup. I like your lineup a lot.

By the way, our bowl vs. MWC has a 50% chance of having BYU in it this year.

But our dates and times suck. Who is going to make an 11 a.m. kickoff the day after Christmas or the day before Christmas in the Bahamas? If it were just one game like this then ok it is what it is.

We replaced one really bad bowl (Hawaii) with three poorly scheduled bowl dates.

In September, a victory against a P5 carries a little more weight because those P5 opponents have very few, if any, losses. They are seen as more of an equal among fellow P5 members. In bowl season, the P5 teams that we in the G5 get to play are just seen as "average" competition. They have 6 or 7 losses. Beating them in a bowl just simply isn't as rewarding.

The is my view also. Beating a 3-0 Michigan in Sept is better than beating a 6-6 Michigan in December.
Don't fall for the name in December, fall for the ranking of the team. If a 6-6 Michigan is in the top 30 than you have a point, but at 6-6, that school is a flame out and is not big deal.
How far did it carry App. St or Utah when they beat Michigan in Sept? Even though Michigan flamed out in 2008 at 3-9, that win propelled Utah high into the rankings.

Its ALL about the name. Nothing else matters. It's just that some of you haven't figured it out yet. Anybody that doesn't say they would prefer to beat a 6-6 Michigan vs a 10-2 Central Michigan is a liar. And not much of a football fan.

And I guarantee you, on Monday morning at the water cooler, all of you would rather be bragging about your team beating a 6-6 Michigan Wolverine team vs a 10-2 Central Mich.

I used to be critical of Hawaii. Then, I got to not spend big dollars to travel to a bowl, watch my Owls dominate Fresno State on ESPN in a game that was over at halftime, and watch a second half infomercial on how the Rice program does everything right and is a rising star in the college football world.
