I doubt it. Too many students. The HBCs may be in trouble though.

Without a viable comprehensive public university, the future of Memphis and Shelby County would be nearly hopeless.

as opposed to...

As opposed to a city and county with good people and a great many assets having a chance to be a great place to live. UofM provides an annual economic impact over $1 billion, priceless national publicity, affordable higher educational opportunity, an essential asset for recruiting new industry and business and sports/cultural events enhancing quality of life.

Good answer!
That's what I was looking for.

I'm not so sure about the priceless national publicity

But anyway, I think this could happen and it's a shame. I hope that they're looking into the looming possibility of a huge drop in admissions, non payment of tuition, etc. they could learn a LOT from the housing crisis. It doesn't seem any universities have, my alma mater inclusive.

Does anyone think that a MemphisTigers.org sponsored awareness rally would help?

They've, undoubtedly, got a bunch of alumni graduates who are now construction workers donating their services.

It's actually the impending, snowballing problem of increased tuition costs and the turnaround inability to repay student loans.

I've counseled a bunch of new graduates who are having this problem. It appears that it will get worse before it gets better. I believe that as a community we can prepare our universities accordingly and make sure that they continue to be viable resources into the future.

No doubt. When you go to school and get your degree sometimes it takes a while before you can even earn enough to even make your payments. Back in the day I had a State Board of Regents scholarship. It would pay all my tuition with 2 requirements; maintain a 3.0 avg. and work 30 hours a semester at the school. I would work registration and be done working for the year. I was glad I didn't have a big debt to repay.

Kids get so much money for college and take out too much money in loans. They live like they make they make a couple hundred grand a year. After graduation many take a pay cut. I bet they need counseling
