They are definitely going to the 6 fouls on a trial basis this next pre season. So I guess they'll see how it works out and either implement it or leave things where they are. I'm buying tickets either way, so we'll just wait and see how the experiment works out. Hope you're getting along o.k these days. Need you in good shape for the basketball season.

Probably won't ever be in good shape again, but I have bought tickets and plan on using them if the Lord's willing and whatever the name of that creek that runs through the campus is, doesn't flood.

Doc mentioned Officiating being a factor in deciding games. I am all for anything that would minimize the officials influencing the outcome. It's the one thing that makes Basketball less enjoyable than it could be, and it is one reason I enjoy Volleyball a lot. Officials are virtually no factor in Volleyball.
The NBA has become unbelievable physical. Watching Lebron James as he backs in preparing to spin to the basket, he practically cold-cocks the defender with his left arm, and it is never called. That's just one example.

It's call "protecting the stars". I'm reading Charles Barkley's book called "I May Be Wrong, But I Doubt It". It really gives you some insight into Barkley and pro basketball. One thing he points out is that basketball teams must have a star to win championships. He gives a lot of examples of how franchises went down when their star retired or was traded. And you can't win with just role players. That's probably why Labron and others are allowed more leeway. The NBA game is built around stars. And I'm sure the refs are made aware of that and allow some things to occur that they wouldn't normally. You just don't foul out a Labron James or a Stephan Curry. Bad for the game. Especially in the playoffs.

You say they are to experiment with the 6 Foul deal this coming pre-season. For sure, that will be interesting to watch. Seems to me it would change things a lot. 5 fouls has been the rule since Naismith invented the game. Think about it this way. Assume each team uses 10 players in a game. Each team would have potential 60 fouls, 120 for both teams. How could that not make the game drag on?

In the NBA a player fouls out on his 6th foul in a 48 minute game.
5 fouls seems about right for a 40 minute college game which is supposed to be less physical. Problem with 5 fouls is that many coaches sit a player if he gets 2 in the first half- that can happen in a couple of minutes and it sucks having a kid miss the next 18 minutes of the first half. Still, having 6 fouls would take a lot of the coaching strategy out of the game. Still not sure if I like going to 6 or not. Probably not, but I have to think about it.

I'll be interested in seeing the 6 foul experiment. Another possible improvement would be to eliminate the intentional fouling in the last few minutes of a game to stop the clock. That just drags the game out drastically. My thought. Last two minutes of the game, any foul in the backcourt gives the team who is fouled, two free throws and the ball out of bounds. That would eliminate some of the intentional fouling since there would be no advantage to the team fouling. The other rule change I'd like to see is eliminating the time out after a basket. When you make a basket, you no longer have possession of the ball, so how can you call a time out? In every other situation, you must have possession of the ball to call a timeout.
When I'm King of the World, I'll make some of these changes.

I haven't watched an NBA game since Fish retired a couple of years ago, and then only watched them when I caught Fish's team. Don't like professional basketball because of the star system. Anyone have any idea how many times stars like Bird, Magic, Jordan, and some of those other "stars' fouled out during their careers?

I had no idea. Never really thought about it, mainly because I don't care for professional basketball anymore.

Who knows. That varies wildly every year.
