Yeah, it's funny how Eastern's is EXACTLY the same, down to the last penny - lol. Yah, I buy that just like I buy that they ACTUALLY averaged 13k fans each home game.

Because all you have to do is spend the money on stuff, or the money made/saved is used for projects and future expenditures on expansion, etc. One reason why college is way over priced. They all want to expand-expand-expand/spend-spend-spend.

Its because different schools classify the money they get differently. Because they are nonprofit there is a lot of moving money to and from different department budgets to make all the numbers even.

Yeah its so easy to criticize EMU. You know the school that offers more men's and women's sports than any other MAC school but still won the Cartwright Award last year and the MAC women's team award this year. The fact is despite your comments on finances that outside of football EMU is very competitive in almost every other sport they offer. And EMU like most MAC schools charges its students an athletic fee which is the main support for their athletic programs. As you know most college athletic programs in this country are not self supporting in terms of revenues vs. expenses.
EMU does make a fair amount on football guarantees.

You're right about EMU outside of football. If the MAC had made basketball their focus instead of football (see: Horizon League, old Big East), then EMU would be the class of the league.
But football is where much of the focus is in the MAC, and EMU is an embarrassment. The guarantees you speak of can be summed up in one word: Pepsi. Without that contract, you are out of D1 for football.
