One thing I can say is that I tried. I realized from the get go that despite the fact I have way more chemistry with people of other races, especially whites, people were gonna see me as black no matter what I did in life. I may have plenty in common with Carlton Banks but I'll always be seen as, to make a bad example because it's all I can think of, Lawrence Taylor or some random thug, at least to some shallow minded people.

I hung out with all of the black kids in middle and high school, went to an HBCU (but always rooted for UH) and always made an effort to be around blacks, in religious establishments and hanging out in general. I accepted it and embraced it 110%.

Perhaps it can be said I hung around the wrong type of blacks (the "cool" kids, many of whom aren't doing so well these days) and tried too hard. The fact is though that progressive attitudes often times don't exist in the black community, not even among the educated types. I think dang, no wonder I had such a hard time making friends growing up (probably a combo of some factors).

So again, I tried but from where I'm standing, progressive attitudes are hard to come by among African-Americans in general, much to my frustration. For example, someone is probably ready to call me an Uncle Tom for even typing this, as if we all have to be united in the same type of thinking.

Right. All I can say is that I tried. I graduated high school in a class with 227 white kids. No blacks, no Hispanics. But my father, who grew up in NYC, instilled in me that racism was unfair and idiotic. I didn't know any black people until my first job when I was 23. Then I had a close black friend who went through a grueling training period with me that lasted a couple months. I don't know if either of us could have done it alone.

For people like us who are not in the media, we can only handle racial interactions one person at a time. Treat everyone with respect and you'll almost never have a problem.

I just see us slipping slowly into "A Clockwork Orange". It won't happen soon; I think we're headed at glacial speed in that direction.

Expect it to get worse. As I've repeated, it's exploding on social media, as was the case for Freddie Gray, you know, where three cops arrested for his handling were black.

Well I used to be in the media but I'm no longer active because, uh well, I psychotically exploded. I don't know how some do it, how they keep their cool so well dealing with such illogical people.

I knew what I had on the line as a young man but I got sick of keeping it PC and telling people what they want to hear. And I know not everyone is as intelligent as me (in many ways anyways, I fall short in some areas) or had access to as good of an education growing up as me but you just get sick of dealing with people who aren't progressive and want to race bait and hold on to a grudge about how evil whitey is and how whitey is holding them down or really, illogical people in general. And I also know that some people have less time to do critical thinking and have to focus their attention elsewhere but it still wears on you.

When I look at situations like these and the protests that spawn from them and the irrational and often times mean comments on social media, I'm getting to the point where I don't even care when people say racist things like the SAE frat boys or Donald Sterling, though he's more of an elitist than someone who got pushed over the edge, to name a couple examples. You can only push people so far before they start wanting to push back.

And again, there's all kinds of racism out there and numerous things done to harm and hold down the African diaspora but like I said, they can be very racist themselves.

So social media thinks it's ok to go to a different city, crash a party at a private pool, and start fights with owners of the pool? Then they're shocked when the police show up?

I just don't get the younger generation. Maybe I'm just an old coot.

This story is absurd. This stuff happens every damn day.

I've had a cop slam me against a wall, the ground, and I've had a gun pulled on me by a cop twice.

The fact that this story is already more of a story than Tamir Rice is ridiculous. If you are up in arms about this nonsense, then congratulations on being a pawn of the media.

regardless of why the cops were called....that one cop was an a-hole and had no reason what so ever to throw that young girl around as he did. I dont care what race anyone is or what she said, that was over the top, as was pulling his gun on the two guys that appeared to be trying to talk to and get him off the girl.

Exactly, the prevailing media narrative is "cops gone wild."

You charge an Officer while he is clearly preoccupied restraining a Prisoner, expect him to defend himself.

yea the 200 pound cop was restraining a 100 pound 15 year old girl....he has one knee on the girls neck the other on her back..i would also walk up to that cop and tell him the settle down and get off her.

nope, not buying it, that was an a-hole cop that needs to lose his badge...if that was my kid, id make sure of it. There are lots of great cops out there, this guy is not one of them.

Younger generation? It's not just younger people that are outraged.
