RE: 2015-16 Schedule
Of these 2,500 season ticket holders, Id say less than 500 will be at that game. Just with my family, I have 4 season tickets in a prime seating section. However, only myself (maybe) will be able to attend this game. And I will have to think hard about the pros and cons of showing up versus watching the game from my bedroom TV.

I think it would be a good idea for the university to publicize some avenue for season ticket holders who can't make it to the game to sell their tickets to those who would want to. I would basically give them away, as it is important to me that people be in the stands.

If they don't give away the tickets, I don't understand how they expect to have more than 1,000 people there students included. I think its a positive to be on national TV as perhaps some people might see the 2nd half as they wake up, but we have to do something drastic to not be playing in an empty venue.

RE: 2015-16 Schedule
Free tickets because of the special circumstances. Free breakfast to season ticket holders because of potential hurt feelings. I doubt they'll get more than 4-500 general admission receipts, otherwise.

Here's a silly theme for the silly game time:

"If you snooze, you lose!"

Start marketing the game now. If there's going to be giveaways, start today. If they create anticipation and give folks time to prepare they'll show. Cancel classes until noon that day, provide transportation and create enthusiasm among the students. Free doughnuts and coffee....I'll be there.

Sorry, but AD does not have authority to cancel classes, and this would not be an appropriate reason for class cancellations. Many professors would not appreciate that, either.

However, absolute agreement on starting the marketing now.

But our bow tied prez does! What about those who want to attend but have classes? Profs get to sleep late, win- win for all. Let the media be your marketing tool.

Yeah, but I still don't think it's an appropriate cancellation. And not likely to get students out of bed at 5:30 AM, regardless. So bad cost/benefit ratio. Profs would rather their schedule not be disrupted, I'd imagine.

Those who want to attend but have class can most likely still make the earliest class time at 8:15am.

All for promotions and arrangements. But academics always trumps sports. People that live entirely on their "front porch" are often looked upon as rednecks.

So many words just to say, class probably ain't being cancelled. Make the donuts and coffee free to all, don't charge admission to the general public....and hell, new promotion - free ETSU Basketball coffee mugs and pillows to all season ticket holders who show up! And t-shirts with "Snooze and you lose!" theme free for all. kind of like the shirts they made for Chatt in the CIT previously. Anything left can always be given out later.

RE: 2015-16 Schedule
Wofford put 3,014 enthusiastic fans in the stands for a 7 am nationally televised tipoff versus Iona last year. They beat the Gaels 86-73 and had a heck of a lot of fun doing it. http://woffordterriers.com/news/2014/11/...ath=mbball

Like Midnight Madness, the early start can be a unique event that can be a lot of fun for those willing and able to set aside the time.

I wonder if the Terriers made an adjustment in class schedules to facilitate this??

RE: 2015-16 Schedule
There you go. If Wofford can do that we can do that plus more. No more excuses. Maybe I'm the only nutty one here that doesn't think 6AM tip-off is bad in exchange for a great basketball game. Again Green Bay will probably be the best team we play at home all year AND it's on ESPN2. When is the last time ETSU has hosted a ESPN2 game?

Plus it's gonna look damn embarrassing to have an empty arena on ESPN2 and it wouldn't be much of a home court advantage. Lots of people on this board are predicting this team to have a huge amount of success this season, if you truly believe that then tell everyone you know to get their lazy ass out of bed to watch this game against a quality opponent. If the students don't like getting up that early then just stay up all night! I had my fair share of all-nighters in the college days.

RE: 2015-16 Schedule
The fact that it's on ESPN2 is what will hurt attendance most. Interaction effect between 6am tipoff and the convenience of home viewing.

Wofford did it coming off a trip to the NCAA tournament, with an extra hour that makes a whole lot of difference when it comes to sleep and students. ETSU will have to do it on the promise of great things coming and your opportunity to be on ESPN2 where it all starts. "Snooze and you lose!"

Before anyone gets me wrong, I am all for this game and will make every attempt to be there. I am being serious about the attendance challenge, however, in hopes that some people with connections will pay attention.

RE: 2015-16 Schedule
I think getting the Greeks involved will help pull student attendance to the game. Big giveways always upped the students showing up as well, even last year.

It just needs to be hyped in a big way by the athletic department and we should be ok. I doubt it would be our biggest turnout ever or anything crazy, but I see the novelty factor helping enough to not make us look terrible on national television.

ETSU needs to do something for the students and they need to start thinking about it ASAP.

Someome from ETSU should talk to Wofford, definitely. But again, appreciate nuance and obvious differences: Wofford was coming off an NCAA tournament appearance, expected to win conference again, dealing with a 7am tipoff, and I would suppose their arena is on campus (tell me if wrong in assumption...and btw, 3000 is sold out for Wofford, really?). ETSU can and should try to match a good showing of attendance, but I'm more interested in the win on the court than in the crowd.

Please no. As a student the greek life at ETSU are terrible. Every game they came to last year they would leave at half time no matter what to go to whatever party they found out about. Please keep the greeks away.

Pretty sure their gym is on campus, and actually I'm wrong, it wasn't quite a sellout. Their gym seats 3,500 not 3,000.

Of course I'm more interested in the win on the court too but it would be nice to have a slight home court advantage because if Green Bay is as good as they were last year we will need it. Also it will look really bad if Freedom Hall is empty on national TV and who knows that might even hurt us in the future when trying to host special events like this or getting home games on ESPN and ESPN2.

Respectfully, this is just silly. NO, this game is not going to hurt our chances at stuff for the future. Beating the h out of this team on ESPN has no drawbacks. Everyone watching knows it's 6am tip. 50 fans or 500 fans, won't matter.

If the greeks choose to come and leave at half-time okay. It's better then the other students who don't show at all...and I have a solution for anyone leaving at half-time. WINNING!!!!!!

RE: 2015-16 Schedule
Have they adopted a points program for all social/service clubs at ETSU? Some schools as a motivator will put up prizes or even agree to host a mixer at year's end for the group that has the best attendance at sporting events. If you dangle the carrot of a big bash involving influential alums, decent food, and all that, they'll come.
