Call them a few tweaks, a few minor alterations. The three tails atop the Ball State logo’s head, whether you see them as feathers, “whoosh” marks or black streaks, those have gone.

It’s part of an update to the brand, something the school has been toying with and testing out. University spokesperson Joan Todd pointed out the current brand has been successful, but it’s also 10 years old.

“We’ve been trying some new things on for size and seeing the reaction by the community,” Todd said. “It’s a little more streamlined, but Charlie is otherwise the same.

This is not an upgrade in my opinion. Without those lines up top, the logo looks stagnant.

I guess the one positive is that it balances the logo better, by helping move the center of the logo more into the cardinal head.

In some ways I can understand the changes, in other ways not. I will have to see it in use in a few places and get over what i liked about the old to really see if I like the new look.
