Republican's Conservative Base is shrinking.
Not really a surprise but they are still the majority, but here's the latest from Gallup:

Quote:The percentage of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents who describe themselves as both social and economic conservatives has dropped to 42%, the lowest level Gallup has measured since 2005. The second-largest group of Republicans (24%) see themselves as moderate or liberal on both social and economic issues, while 20% of all Republicans are moderate or liberal on social issues but conservative on economic ones.

We were much more socialist in the 50's. We are moving away from what made America great.

I'd respectfully disagree. We're moving back towards it, thank God. All the great presidents from times past aren't remembered for impeding rights and working to expand a select number of corporations, they're remembered for passing civil rights legislation, lifting us out of depressions, and serving as impassioned and populist leaders -- like FDR, Eisenhower, Clinton, etc.

Ike had a nice golf swing. Beyond that?..meh07-coffee3

He did however warn us of interventionism and the dangers of the Industrial Military Complex making policy. I respect him greatly for his farewell speech.

Government's share of the GDP was much smaller in the 1950's. And our lives weren't micro-managed from Washington the way they are now.

Freedom is a zero-sum game. We were more free back then.

It started in the 80s with the seatbelts, IMO.

I am somewhat conflicted on that one. I'm all for saving lives, but these really are just forms of profit for bored local PD's.

I am all for saving lives as well and I wear my seat belt probably 80% of the time, but it gave the levels of government an in to micromanage lives in the name of safety "for the children". Our city just issued a curfew in effect from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM... yes a phucking curfew because the kids in one neighborhood at the bottom end of a 30 mile long city can't stop shooting each other. This was enacted by the POLICE through edict, not even through the democratic process. So if I had a 16 year old, he could spend the night in jail for making a midnight Taco Bell run or going to 7-Eleven for a slurpee, even if I the parent consented to the trip. Just another example of overreach. There are already laws against loitering in public places. Enforce those instead.

beliefs shift..sometimes to the right..sometimes to the left... I know you progs thinking flooding the borders with illegals will secure a futue for socialist amerika...but it won't. HRC was the worst candidate you immoral hacks could have put forward. Your Dear Leader polls lower than W. Middle East is on fire. Vast majority of Americans believe our great nation is headed in the wrong direction. I could go on and on... but I will spare you... I am merciful. 04-cheers
