Interesting talk. Brando has a firm handle on things, it seems. So given all of that, what do you think the likely outcome of issues relating to:

1. The BOT retaining its current structure and governance of UAB (and UAH, for that matter.)
2. The future of Dr. Watts?

If there's a Atty in this free UAB movement that is willing to work pro bono I would file a class actin lawsuit of season ticket holders against the board and try to get Jr on the stand or at the very least a deposition. That's the only way to get at any part of the truth.

UAB HC Bill Clark told Tim Brando that he went to Nick Saban to try to get help getting in contact with PBJr. Nick Saban called PBJr and PBjr picked up. Saban tried to get PBJr to talk to Clark but he would not talk to Clark.

This is the guy who was the president of the board of trustees for years...won't even speak to one of the campus head coaches.

1. This is the center of our struggle. They hold many powerful cards, including using massive amounts of System funds to pay lobbyists and PR firms to bolster their cause. I think we can defeat them, but it will take time and effort. But right is on our side.

2. Everyone calls him a dead man walking, and even senior VPs tell him to resign to his face. He may be fired at the June 18-19 Trustees meeting (in which case he's already been fired, it just has not been announced, because all Board business is done in private and yes, that is illegal). He is a very angry little man and may try to do as much damage as possible to burn the place down on his way out the door.

I thought Brando did a very good job of covering what happened other than brushing over the details of the Bartow-Bryant situation and the letter.
It also helps you guys that Brando's roots are with a group that dearly hates alabama and Sabin.

Just to be fair here: Saban gave mild pro-UAB mumbles early on, and stayed clearly out of the fracas afterwards.

The Bryant clique threw everything at us. Lobbyists, PR firms, the UAT alumni ass., The Machine. If Saban were in their corner, they would have used him, and it would have been devastating in this state. They know that, so they had to have tried. I give him props for refusing.

Saban used to use his loss to UAB in 2000 as part of his stump speech about motivating and preparing to play, until someone got in his ear and told him how impolitic it would be to ever mention losing to UAB again as long as he was wearing the scarlet letter.

The city of Birmingham and Jefferson County as a whole absolutely have to "circle the wagons" here.

He should just emphasize that it was LSU who suffered the shocking humiliation. Everybody would be happy.

Everybody knew. Didn't matter. Their golden boy don't lose to UAB.

Great interview. I think Tim hit all the high notes here. It's amazing to me that this story doesn't seem to alarm anyone else in the media at all (even Feldman and Mandel while Tim is laying it all out there).

I will contend, however, that Tim was stretching the facts a little when he claimed that UAB was putting 10,000 more people in the football stadium (on average) than Louisiana Tech. That seem like it may be going a little far to make a point. I do agree that the Carr report was a trash piece on UAB and many of its numbers were false...but come on, Tim.

I have no clue how many LT put in the stands. I think he just threw a rounded up number out there. The fair comparison that resonates here is that UAB outdrew USA and Troy by over 5,000 a game when it is perceived (Mostly media and troll driven) the opposite. In fact UAB was fifth in attendance in C-USA with a cloud over it.. Amazing what happens to attendance for ALL of us when we win and what happens when we lose. Must be some connection.

Agreed. And note again I wasn't saying that UAB didn't bring good crowds. I was at the game in Birmingham, the crowd was fine.

Of course, Tim is an NLU (ULM) grad and has always been more affable than most towards Tech...though critical at times as well. I have no ill feelings towards him.
