Grizz Interested In Greg Oden
A little late, but you can read the article here

Quote:Oden could also just be an insurance policy. Memphis will have a hard time retaining Kostas Koufos on their bench, as the Greek big man is a free agent this summer and will see big money from many other teams—money that Memphis needs to pay to their MVP, Marc Gasol.

I don't like this if it's the primary contingency plan for Kosta leaving. 212 NBA minutes logged in the last 5 years. Yikes!

If we are just giving our PG's best friend a camp invite and a possible minimum deal for the 3rd center spot...MAYBE I can get down with that.

More and more it seems like our FA evaluations are from 2k12.

RE: Grizz Interested In Greg Oden
When you're a small market team like Memphis, all you can do in the free agent market is take risks.

You aren't going to get a LaMarcus Aldridge, Deandre Jordan, Rajon Rondo, Kevin Love, or any player of that caliber.

Let's be real: The two anchors they have were gambles that worked out better than anyone could have ever imagined.

I don't know how I feel about Oden, but what else are they going to do? If Gasol comes back, then they won't have the money for Kufos.

Still don't know what they're going to do to get an elite shooter. Not sure they can without giving something up. If they can get Gasol back, maybe package T Allen and C Lee and go after a Korver type shooter. Hope that Jordan Adams comes along and Stokes can contribute off the bench.

The only thing good about Oden is that we didn't draft him. It would have been just our luck to pass up Durant for Oden. To be honest Stokes and JaMychal Green will probably bring more than Oden and neither one of them really plays much.

Vernon said yesterday that he was laughed out of the room when he brought this up with his Grizz connections. There's no interest and there's not even a free agent camp or whatever.

These the same Vernon connections to the Grizz that had him tweeting that the team was about to sign Bill Walker, Sasha Vujacic and some other retread after the Gay trade?

I'm not saying Vernon is always right, but surely you aren't questioning his connections w/ the Grizz...?

Yep. That's why it makes me LOL when people suggest Monta Ellis would play here for $5M per year just b/c he bought Lorenzen's old house. If Memphis wants to land a Top 10 free agent at any position, we are going to have to pay the tax. That's just not going to happen.

I think we re-sign Marc, add a few cheap free agents, give more PT to last year's rookies, and MAYBE look to move CLee for a shooter with some length.

I'd be down with swapping Stokes for a 2nd round pick and picking up Dakari as our Koufos replacement in the second round. That way we can snag a wing with our 1st and open up playing time for Jam Green, who's a better prospect than Stokes IMO.

Dakari Johnson has NO offensive skills and was out rebounded (beat to the ball) too many times to be taken with our first pick. He would be a better 2nd round pick.

SMH. The Griz management compiled a team making it to the second round of the NBA playoffs and are one of two teams - I think - earning playoff status for five straight years. They are well aware of the team's needs.

They are probably going to go big with their first round pick. What I wouldn't mind is seeing them do a trade like last year and maybe get a Pat Connaughton in the second.
