CBS Sports Network: MAC Football & Basketball Games Aired THIS YEAR
12 Football Games are going to be put on CBS Sports Network for this season. And no, not Tues/Wed football games, either!

Absolutely awesome. I just pray they give the MAC a noon/1:00 EST kickoff slot for the fall

Only six football games this coming season. Up to 12 football games in future seasons.

But yes, definitely good news! 04-cheers

Just guessing, but the Toledo game looks like a perfect game to be picked up by CBS

How does this benefit fans? If these are going to be games that would not be televised, then I guess it is good. But ESPN already shows a lot of MAC games, both bball and football, via WatchESPN. Why should the MAC be tethering itself to a premium cable network that is not only on cable but people have to pay extra to watch?

Time to get out of the stone age, people.

Like I said, time to get out of the stone age. Buy a TV you can stream through. Other than the cost of the TV and a streaming device (this isn't required), the cost of watching MAC sports on WatchESPN is $0.00. CBS SN requires a cable subscription, plus the premium sports tier. This is what, $125/month?

Fool.

All the new sports networks need programming so MAC gets its piece of the action.

Hope it lasts. Conference has had TV deals before, all short-lived.

On my retirement income I don't have the Charter Sports Tier. But frankly unless we're on I'd probably watch the Big Ten game opposite on ESPN or BTN (NOT Penn State, Maryland, or Rutgers though).

I am guessing the games will still air on ESPN3 along with CBS SN. They do this with basketball games all the time with the Sportstime Ohio broadcasts.

That is great news and what I'm hoping for. The downside is that STO is a regional network while CBS SN is a premium tier on cable.

I can understand how someone who doesn't get CBSSN might think, Big deal, and I can understand why some are critical of the MAC's most recent deal with ESPN (especially regarding the lack of transparency regarding the release of information about the deal, or regarding the midweek games).

What I can't understand is how anyone could think that increasing - by any means - the number of nationally televised MAC games (not just on a device and/or through a computer) is somehow a bad thing, especially for basketball, considering that national telecasts of MAC hoops have been practically nonexistent up to this point.

Who's going to watch?

Most people that care about the games go to them.

Yes, it's a good thing for "exposure."

Just like previous TV deals were.

As soon as ratings show low, advertisers bail.

Then the networks do.

As the kids say, "It's all about the mons."

Yeah, I watched Matt Stainbrooks Xavier team constantly last season. The seemed to have almost every game televised. This is very much a marker for a next level. People want to see those teams play, and they are available to watch. That way people get interested in you and want to watch your games.

The mid week ESPN games fill a niche, but really it just a way for football guys to get their fix midweek. So it becomes more generic, that fan mostly just wants to see a game, and that midweek slot it is the only game available. MAC ratings are pretty good, but the viewers are just junkies in need of a fix.

I doubt it. ESPN will keep that game if we are playing for the MAC west championship.

In all honesty, Vegas has a big roll in it as well. Don't forget that part of which games get televised or not.

...

The total attendance for all 13 WMU games last year, home and way, was 260,472. The NIU v WMU game on ESPN2 at 11am on Black Friday drew 211K viewers.

It is ludicrous to suggest that the only people watching a MAC game on TV are people who would otherwise attend the game in person.

That was for a game with divisional championship implications on a holiday weekend when watching Football is almost mandatory.

Who's going to watch on Saturdays at Noon in October-early November when there are P5 games on BTN, ESPN, etc.?

Who cares who/how many watches? It's better than being streamed only online!

Fair enough. I give it two years.
