Okay, Mullet Man, you enjoy Kent vs. UMass and EMU vs. Akron.

Fair enough. I give it two years.

Ehh I guess we will see. The matchups this year on CBS will blow because all the schedules are set in stone. But I believe starting in 2016, there will be Thursday/Saturday games scheduled purposely on those dates in order for them to be on CBS Sports. Atleast that is what I would assume would be the case.

Who's going to watch on Saturdays at Noon in October-early November when there are P5 games on BTN, ESPN, etc.?

The lowest rated Saturday game of the year last year was on 11/29 at 4pm between UConn and Memphis, and that drew 65K viewers, or more than double the seating capacity at Waldo.

There is no scenario where the number of TV viewers is less than the number of potential ticket buyers. Its impossible.

Maybe I'm in the extreme minority, but I don't see how/why this is viewed as a bad deal. Not like the supposed great Tuesday or Wednesday match ups set ratings records. Football will be a challenge due to the late timing, but Basketball will awesome exposure.

I will watch them. I'm a fan of MAC football and the more of it I get to see on the west coast, the better. And CBSsports does a nice production job on their college football broadcasts. Would much rather watch EMU vs. Akron from my couch on a Saturday morning than a couple of SEC teams going at it that I have no interest in.

I don't think it's a "bad deal," just based on past history it won't last.

Of course there are more sports networks now that need programming, maybe they'll be willing to take a loss to fill up air time.

What's the Kick off time?

6:30 PM central time

Supposedly, they picked up our game over Memphis/BGSU, Cincinnati/Miami, Pitt/Akron, Marshall/Ohio and Temple/UMASS.

That's actually big: Memphis vs BGSU combined teams > UNLV vs NIU.

UNLV *sucked* last year and unless they have some "miracle grow" coach like Urban Meyer, they're going to suck this year too.

A #1 MAC East vs #1 (contending) AAC team would be bigger

Also, Pitt-Akron --> Akron beat Pitt last time. And the other three are Rivalries.

So yeah, that was a big move picking NIU vs UNLV.

I think the thing is: UNLV is still a "big" mid-major name (winning NCAA tourney back in the 90s), and them not usually being as bad as they're aimed to be. And of course NIU a huge name mid-major with a Chicago viewing audience.

It'd get more viewers that folks in Memphis & Bowling Green.

Some Vegas and Chicago businesses made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

I'm pretty sure NIU has generally averaged more viewers than other MAC schools on the MACtion broadcasts. If that's the case, it would make sense why CBSSN might prefer to broadcast the NIU game over other potentially better matchups.
