Is Coach Clarks goal 2016?
Does anyone know if that is his goal. We have 31 players still on campus, can use the 2015 scholarships to sign JUCO's in Dec, 2015 and then sign 2016 class in February. We will be young, have only @ 80 players but i think if anyone can make it work it is Coach Clark.

Gettr Done Coach!

2016 or BUST!!

There's a lot to figure out. The roster is a huge one, but there are other things like scheduling and NCAA rulings.

That's his goal, but the pieces have to fall in place, mainly NCAA waivers. However he is not going to endanger players just to be back in 2016.

RE: Is Coach Clarks goal 2016?
I think 2016 is the goal for everyone, including CUSA. As far as players, we should be near the 85 scholarship limit if you include 25 in Dec that applies to the 2015 class, 25 in Feb for 2016, 30 still on campus, and FBS and FCS transfers. I would expect the Dec signee recruitment to be highly-focused on JUCO's for age, size, and experience(especially those that went from FCS/FBS down to JUCO) and the Feb recruiting to be focused on high school with some quality JUCOs thrown in. I don't think the NCAA will stand in the way due to the nature of the situation. Someone has mentioned the Ga. State scenario whereby the brought in 50 new guys very quickly and have floundered. Care must be taken to bring in guys that fit and have real ability - not just bodies. I fully expect 2016 to be the restart year...

I have no doubt that UAB will field a football team in 2016. Question is, at what classification. FBS seems unrealistic to me, just at first glance. But we'll see...

I believe UAB Football is going to bounce back faster than we think. It is all about recruiting and who wants to play for Bill Clark. That is a "HUGE" plus. I also believe UAB Football will earn at least seven wins and an invitation to a bowl game in 2016-2017. I also believe fundraising efforts for a new on campus football stadium and athletic facility will commence long before the 2016 football season begins.

The problem with returning at FCS level is the 65-man limit on scholarships. Even if you get recruits to buy into that you'd still have to "over-recruit" the following year to get to the 85-man FBS number.

Would being FCS Independent or transitional be a viable option in 2016?

If there are 31 players still on campus, about 25 are walk-ons. Name the scholarship players that are left. I came up with Shaq Jones, Jordan Petty, Ejike is supposed to be coming back, Zach Sims, and maybe 2 or 3 others. At least 56 (if not more) are at other schools, and around 15 graduated.

RE: Is Coach Clarks goal 2016?
Right bham. The players left on campus are guys nobody wanted.(no offense to any of these guys).

It is all going to depend on what the NCAA does here. Let's say we have 10 guys on campus and another 5 who want to come back. If these guys don't count against our numbers, we need to add 70 players. If we are allowed to recruit in 2015 and 2016, and they allow us 5 extra scholarships each time, that leaves us with ten scholarships. I understand that's not ideal, but it's close to the limit at that point. If we load up on jucos and transfers, we could be okay. The problem is we would be really old, and need to balance the classes quickly. It's not impossible to field a competitive team in 2016. Hell, look what Clark was able to do last year. If the NCAA throws us a few waivers, I think this could be a really quick rebuild.

I like the enthusiasm, but there is really not a chance we win 6 games in 2016 if we even play FBS that year. We would be lucky to win 1 or 2.

We had talent when Clark arrived. We didn't have solid coaching. We won't have much talent early on restarting from scratch. Going to take our lumps until at least 2018 or 2019. But yes, it entirely depends on what if any waivers UAB is granted.

Is Coach Clarks goal 2016?
From a recruiting standpoint with JUCOs I would expect us to be very successful in spite of what happened with us. JUCO is filled with guys looking for just a chance to play FBS. And in this case there's a VERY strong likelihood they will have a chance to start or at least play significant minutes.

Clark did magic from one year to the next. We might not be 6-6 in 2016. A lot of that will also depend on what our schedule ends up being. But I feel very good about our ability to play respectably right out of the gates.

It seems like someone mentioned on here that it would be largely up to the NCAA as to whether or not we play in 2016. I don't know to what extent exactly. What kind of say would they or the conference have in the process?

All I know is that we will have a certain jack *** standing in our way of doing what we need to properly do through the whole process.

Per AP, UAB players on scholarship will lose a year of eligibility in '15. Can apply for waiver.

Interesting. I would have assumed that was the case, but the waiver being a possibility could help our cause. Still so many other aspects to look at.

+1

It's not as hard as some make it out to be. If we had a decent QB we would've went bowling last year.
