uconn/ucf rivalry? great idea, bad execution
after really thinking about it the uconn/ucf rivalry was a dud from the start but the idea behind it is really what we need. Diaco said he wanted to create a rivalry to get the fans interested...
and after getting in a 3 year long debate about tv contracts, i realize we do need to start thinking of things to spice up our tv interest

usf/ucf needs to get a trophy

ecu/navy- force a rivalry called "Battle for Treasure Island" and have a trophy that's a fake treasure chest
BAM!!! INSTANT TV CLASSIC...that game would be so marketable its ridiculous

Cincy versus Memphis..make up a name like "battle for the old metro" (referencing the old metro conference)

Houston vs SMU.. something like "Houston Dallas showdown" or "good ole city pride" get 2 huge competing cities involved

Tulane vs Tulsa "Force Majeure" .. which is occurrences beyond reasonable control (referencing golden hurricane and green wave, also without being insensitive)

uconn temple "The Pennamite–Yankee War" a real war in the 1700s between the yankees from Connecticut and the Pennamite (from Pennsylvania)

make up a decent amount of these (not too much maybe 2 or 3 a team )
houston/memphis -something about bbq
who knows be creative

will these be viewed the same as other major rivalries? outside of usf/ucf probably not, but they will be viewed more interesting than the regular game

its a cheap way to increase our value

thoughts?

ECU and Navy actually makes some sense. We are near each other only like 5 hours apart. Pirates and the Navy our natural enemies in real-life. Lots in common such as ships, the sea, flags etc. Maybe the battle for the wheel? The trophy could be a big old-school wooden ship steering wheel.

Diaco is just trying to motivate his players. I mean...any motivation at this point is good for UCONN football. It's nothing more than him trying to light a fire. No one actually believes this UCONN-UCF rivalry exists or will amount to anything.

I'm friends with one of the writers for the current on Facebook and they think Diaco is a salesman they need to see action on the field or he may be out. I have inside information the jury is out for Diaco, another disaster season could be his demise

Yep on the 'cheap' and No on the 'value' (unless you 'value' being laughed at) --- ideas for real rivalries aren't posted on sports boards or tweeted w/ pics of trophies and old countdown clocks. They happen from the bottom up ---

And prior to my move to Boston a month ago, I worked within the UCONN administration in Storrs. In terms of expectations next season, FAR more is expected of Ollie and the basketball team than Diaco and the football team.

because people care about fake rivalries???

Missouri-Arkansas are forcing the hell out of making a rivalrly...literally no one cares..the big 10 is pushing maryland rutgers as a thing, no one cares or is laughing..duke syracuse was the most smooth forced rivalry, it is already being labelled "a great rivalry" by coach k and some sites..youd not even even realize this only became a yearly thing 3 years ago

dont be that 1 self conscious kid who prevents himself from taking chances because he thinks every will look at him funny and laugh, when in reality literally no one will care and those that likely notice are the ones that like it

again no on e is saying these are 'real rivalries" but it does make our games more marketable and increases tv interest....

Diaco had one win last year against a Div I-A team.

You really needed "inside information" to realize that he might be on shaky ground?

True but to call it a real rivalry would be false. No big deal, for whatever reasons we don't hate each other. We scheduled UNT as we thought TCU was dropping us but they changed their minds

GREAT! Sounds like the "Good Ole City Pride Bowl" is stillborn. We'll play Houston in the "Something About BBQ Bowl." We still have that hideous bronzed rack of ribs trophy from our last victory over UAB. Perfect!

Not true... There just hasn't been anything exciting between us... But if your coach and ours mad dog each other, then we have something.

I think we'll see something heat up very very soon.
