When P5 officials are considering Memphis vs Cincy & UCF, I don't think 200-400 air miles will make much difference when you consider a warm & inviting FL location with great recruiting & TV market - even for UWV or the rest of the B12. For us to succeed we will need additional facilities improvements IMO (including an OCS) & continued on-field success....JMO.

If the Big 12 were to consider UCF, it puts them on an island (just like WV currently is). Obviously bringing in Cincy would bridge the gap between WV and the rest of the Big 12. Memphis makes the most sense after Cincy. But, we all know this is driven by the dollar, not sense.

IMO, all we can do is field the best and most competitive teams we can (looks good for 2015-6); have the right people in place to promote the effort (I think we do between Rudd, Bowen and corporate support), invest in facilities (we are) and we do offer a nice TV market and geographic footprint in the heart of SEC country.

All in all, I still foresee somewhere down the road the fate of the Big 12 will be that of the Big East.

Just like UWV took the invite to the B12, UCF would be more than happy to be "an island". And like I said previously, 200-400 air miles is nothing (comparing Memphis & Orlando). The only impact is the ability for the average fan to travel to games by car - and since when has that been a consideration in all this reorganization. Point is that while geographically Memphis is a great choice, we are likely behind both Cincy & UCF due to program on-field success & facilities. Also in the case of Cincy, their proximity to UWV & UCF due to their FL location for TV market & recruiting.

But even this comparison is premature, IMO. I don't think the B12 will do anything unless they again get passed over for a playoff spot & that due to lack of a B12 championship game.

Now you are reaching. It's more like 700-800 miles.
And, yes, that's a significant diff.

TV Markets, infrastructure and football credibility are far more important than the distance between schools. How far was Miami from the rest of the BigEast?

Since this is from *every* other member I would think it at least has to be part of the consideration --- otherwise why else make statements like if the Big 12 expands it will more likely 'expand east not west.' Sure travel costs for teams might be the primary concern but I'd think travel for fans have to be a consideration also --- especially since this would make two of the twelve essentially out of reach for a substantial majority of the fans in the rest of the conferences.

They are legacy Big XII and all of this talk is about making sure they don't miss out on another playoff spot.

Texas isn't giving up $20 million per year to go anywhere.

Who am I supposed to believe, you guys or the man who knows more about Memphis sports than anybody on Earth?

Tupelo Sammy?

Are you saying Sammy and The Legend are one and the same? Wow, that's huge! They are both giants of the Tiger world, but if they're only one giant, they must be gigantic!

UWV was invited & made the leap with no reservation while being out there by themselves - and for every other conference mate to be impacted by the travel..........

I heard there was discovered a fresh water species in Lake Lanier.
Or was that an old man having "fun" with lady skiers?
Damn, there's those pesky quotation marks again.
