I agree, Memphis and Cincinnati make sense given the West Virginia island and UCF creates another one

Also concerned about UCF because of the expanded recruiting they bring. Granted, Memphis also bring new recruiting and TV to the Big 12 but I wonder if we compare well to Orlando in either.

As I mentioned my fear about UCF is that the Big XII can expand into two major conference footprints in Florida, ACC and SEC.

But Memphis and Cincy really make the most sense geographically.

Bowsby on what will be looked at IF expansion --- ..."It’s certainly about TV sets. It’s certainly about recruiting. It’s certainly about the possibility of competitive implications in all of our sports, but particularly our high-profile sports."

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com...to-expand/

BTW -- in that last I read "high-profile sports" to include Big 12 basketball ---

our geographical location in SEC recruiting territory means more than our #50 TV market size, IMO

Is that the word at TennStud's hot tub?

No it's the world of reality that we live in. When we "by gosh finally did it" by getting in the BigEast many of us were blasted for predicting the coming implosion. Then a few months later, before we ever played a game in the BigEast, Boom, outta here. Hello American!

No surprise seeing who is taking the bait.

LMAO

I don't think Texas and Oklahoma are going anywhere. If they go PAC12 or BIG their travel is astronomical. They are in a really small footprint right now. If they go SEC, they don't gain much and they aren't the big kids on the block anymore. That's huge.

They are legacy Big XII and all of this talk is about making sure they don't miss out on another playoff spot.

Texas isn't giving up $20 million per year to go anywhere.

After that there would be some obscure rule that would force them to change the name and the president would insist on something like "the great American conference", or "the conference of America" it will have to be something that sounds stupid and generic. That is based in our luck to date.

I don't want to sound naive, but these schools currently get paid over 20 mil per year. Why would that put the greatest weight in adding a new school in the fact that each sports team might have to travel an extra 500-800 miles 1 time per year or every two years. It just sounds like wishful thinking.

The sec schools just got over 30 mil each. You saying they wouldn't give up 20 mil for 30 mil????

Big 12 leadership is comprised of a bunch of visionless idiots.

Big 12 TV Contract - $230 million/10 teams
$23 million per team

Estimated Revenue From CCG - $30-50 million
$260 million/12 teams
$21.7 million per team @ $30 million

+ a much better chance at getting a team in the playoffs every year, which adds even more revenue
+ reduced travel costs across the board for all teams

Average distance to Memphis - 596 miles
Average distance to Orlando - 1,208 miles

Men & Women
Football
Basketball
Women's basketball
Baseball
Softball
Volleyball
Golf
Tennis

There are virtually no opponents between most of the Big 12 and West Virginia and UCF. To put this into perspective, If UCF gets in, Texas has to run a 5,070 mile round trip to play UCF and West Virginia, with no other programs in between. If Memphis gets in, Texas can play Memphis and West Virginia and travel a total of 2,050 miles. That is a 3,000 mile difference for 1 school and 1 sports team from that school.

By adding Memphis and Cincinnati, and factoring in all of the sports teams at every school, you would be literally cutting down hundreds of thousands of miles of travel.

Looking back, anyone with common sense knew that they should have taken Louisville. It took a while, but even the Big 12 knows this now.

The disappointing thing is that I think that Louisville would probably be in favor of us and Cincy if Louisville were in the Big XII instead of the ACC.

Those guys always get the breaks. They "lost out" to West Virginia and ended up in a better fit in the ACC.
