AP - FBS newbies provide glimpse how UAB can rebuild its roster
http://collegefootball.ap.org/article/fb...its-roster

Excerpt:

First off, UAB still has some football players on scholarship as it moves toward a 2015 season with no games, though one where it can hold practices.

While many of the Blazers' best players (such as running back Jordan Howard, who is now at Indiana) have already transferred, there were still 31 players who will be on scholarship in the 2015-16 academic year enrolled at UAB during the recently concluded semester, according to the athletic department.

How many will return is unknown, and the 2015 season will count toward their five years of NCAA eligibility. However, those players could seek a waiver from the NCAA to get that year of eligibility back. So even a player entering his last year of eligibility in 2015 might be able to play in 2016.

UAB did not sign a recruiting class in February, but it still can hand out the NCAA-maximum 25 football scholarships this year. There would be no letters of intent involved. It's too late for that. But Clark still could have freshman scholarship players on campus when the fall semester starts. Though at this point there are probably few FBS-level high school recruits available.

In my opinion rushing and signing bodies will set UAB way more than it will help. Now I have a question...

those bodies that will be signed just to get UAB to a number..what happens to them 2 years later? Will they be treated just like UAB's football program was? Other words how many will be ran off once you are recruiting in the same periods as the rest of us.

You do realize you just asked that to a western fan right?

Oh, you were being rhetorical. My bad.

My comment was based on the "UAB can still sign 25 players this year...

any player freshman UAB picks up was over looked by everyone else or not FBS talent. So I think my question was a fair one. If UAB picks up 25 players most likely they will not be players UAB will need or want 2 years later...

so will they get the boot just as the players who were affected by shutting down the UAB football program. One is not any more fair than the other. We all want to recruit over the talent we now have and players leave because of that. But in this case that's almost a given

Not a big part of the population but there are kids who dont qualify until the very last minute. A juco kid no expected to graduate and be eligible but does. The main player on mississippi states baseball run in omaha didn't qualify until the last act testing in the spring of his hs sr year.

Its not a big number but there are players who can be found still.

I doubt UAB is too worried about this. It's a good problem to have today. A few days ago it wasn't even in the realm of questions to ask. They can't cross that bridge until they get to it.

We don't have to sign freshmen this summer. Any JUCOs signed this December would count toward the 2015 limit.

Lucky for UAB they play in CUSA w/ tons of start ups and long time cellar dwellers.

Blazers will be competitive sooner rather than later.

Signing several JUCOs that count toward 2015 will help the spread too, so you don't have a ton of people graduating at once like you would if you signed a bunch of freshmen. You can take more chances on them as well, because if they don't pan out you'll only have them on scholarship for 2 years instead of 4.

The main thing is UAB has a path to being able to play in 2016. No one expects them to be good that year, just be back in the game.
