It was one of the most insipid calls to arms ever made by an American commander in chief, and there is unlikely to be much competition until President Elizabeth Warren rallies the US Navy against income inequality.

From the president’s urgency, you would think that climate change is beheading American hostages and taking over large swaths of Middle Eastern countries, toward the end of establishing a hostile empire.

The reality is that, even accepting his premises about the state of the science, he can only point to laughably tenuous connections between climate change and national security.

Climate change is not enslaving its victims and using them as human shields and existing in territory in which there is no functioning government left. There is a difference. I know it is easy to say, "just obliterate them," but if you do decide to haphazardly bomb away at Iraq and Syria, thousands - maybe millions - of innocent people will perish in the flames, and that is a stain that is beyond heinous.

No, this time getting involved in a middle eastern war is going to pan out. I can feel it.

Again, it's easy to say "Oh, we should just bomb them," but then again it's easy to do so and kill thousands and thousands of innocent people along with the bad ones. And if you think that is acceptable then you have no place in a position of power.
