Lennie Waite has been selected to represent Great Britain/Northern Ireland in the European Team Championships, to be held June 20-21 in Cheboksary, Russia. She is ranked #1 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in Great Britain.

Lennie is in great shape - training in Austin. On May 14, she ran a LIFETIME BEST in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in Los Angeles (9:46.91). That mark is #40 in the world for 2015, and #10 among Europeans*.

* "Europeans" includes Russians.

Lennie races on Saturday at 10:15 a.m., CDT.

Why not? In soccer, "Europe" includes Israel, Cyprus and Iceland, none of which are part of Europe in terms of physical geography.

Yet another reason to dislike soccer. In case of track and field, Russia could be considered European or Asian.

I don't believe Austin is considered part of Great Britain or Northern Ireland either.
