No small thing
I'd like us to consider for a moment what happened today.
We won. We won. We ******* won.
We stared down the 900 lb gorilla.
Guys like Cubby, Fess and Joe don't stand down because their hearts grew two sizes too big. They do it because someone gets up in their kitchen, applies the hammer lock and forces them to.
This is not done in Alabama.
We did that. Us. The vocal few.
Say this for Punkin Head: he's united the faithful like nothing else I've ever seen.
Last December, for the first time ever (and hopefully last) I stopped being proud of my alma mater. That's not an easy thing for me to type. It was a dark time for me personally, not just because I'm a sports fan, but because something was stolen from my child.
I have submitted my pledge. It's not a big one, because I'm of humble means. I have hounded administrators, trustees, elected officials, and reporters, and argued with idiots on al.com. I've seen the smokin' hot Mrs. Smaug go from "Meh, football" to "We have to get our boys back." I'm sure most of you have similar stories to tell.
I sit here, tired. It's been a long day. There is much to do. But I just wanted to take a moment before I called it a night to say, smile, friends.
We won.
Good night. Lots of work to do tomorrow.

It was an historic day. It's been a roller-coaster ride for more than half a year.
We are back, stronger than ever.

Off topic a bit, but I didn't want to start a thread. There were dozens of fans wearing Blazers gear last night at the Brew Fest. Gave a lot of high-fives.

For some reason there has been an outbreak of Blazer Pride. I wonder what brought that on?

RE: No small thing
June 1 2015 will be a very important date on UAB athletic history even in the state of alabama
We beat people who never lost ever
We still got a lot more work to do
June 1 2015 will be a very bad date for the bot history
The bot will try every deal to kill the rebirth of uab football
We will go a different way and fight for it , those dinosaurs were the master of everything ,,,they are feeling weaker and weaker , they will die and freeuab will survive and reign

RE: No small thing
As Winston Churchill said about El Alamein, "It is not the beginning of the end, but it is the end of the beginning". That is where UAB is at this time.
UAB now faces the greater challenge of gaining continued support in 8 figure ANNUAL support. I'm speaking of $30 to $40 million sustained contributions (AU gets about $115 million and UA gets about $150 million - ANNUALLY) Then we must turn that money into new facilities that FBHC Clark has said are absolutely necessary to UAB's FB future. IF UAB starts this summer, we can play next year. There are many good coaches who will come to work for Clark and there are many good players who will play for him. The "missing link" is our commitment to build (not to merely PLAN) the new facilities needed for them all to be their best.

If you're going to use quotation marks to quote someone, at least look up the quote

RE: No small thing
If you take 6 seconds to google it, you'll figure it out.
Technically speaking, the only word in your "quote" that he didn't say was "it"--but you left out parts, which means youre paraphrasing, not quoting.
We know you love "quotations" as much as you love "Alabama football history."
But if you're going to quote Churchill with your "marks"--at least do it correctly

"Now this is not the end; it is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
I think BamaBlazerFan is close enough. The sentiment is certainly the same.

RE: No small thing
We went through six posts about Churchill's speech when the main point went untouched. We have returned UAB football in the same state of being that it was in when FBHC Clark first arrived. Now UAB must do something about its deficit of facilities which places it behind even a growing list of state high schools.
I want to see some facility improvements put into BEING rather than just PLANNING as we have done for the past decades. It remains a fact that UAB has not furnished its FB players with a single new physical training / conditioning / meeting facility since 1990. If we are going to play D1 ball, we must do better for our players and their coaches.
