Hoiberg always planned to become an NBA coach. He was just waiting for the right opportunity.

Yep. He grew up in Ames, and graduated from Iowa State.

Well he'll never be a legacy coach...I think the highest level college coaches are just as well known as the best NBA coaches.

I can name dozens of college basketball coaches and only a few NBA coaches.

Well Iowa State was never going to be able to outbid the Bulls. So it depends on your viewpoint.

The Coach K/Boeheim types appear to be a dying breed. It's hard to picture a young, successful college coach sticking with the college game his entire career if the NBA comes calling.

I feel a little bit better about having a midcareer guy who has bounced back from the NBA and isn't interested in returning.

The same can be said about football as well... Right now only 3 guys are left that coached in the 1900's same school.... Beamer, Stoops, and Ferentz. Only 13 guys enter their 10th or more year with the same school. And several of them are close to done(Beamer, Ferentz, Pinkel(63 yrs old), O'Leary, Solich, Spurrier).

in basketball- only 18 guys coached in the 1900's at their same school.. and only 41 have been at their same school now for 10 year.

That was kinda my point...the game will miss these iconic coaches in both sports.
