So what is the story on the people responsible for this B.S.? The people on the BOT or even others that originally endorsed the idea should be called out and publicly shamed! I hope they resign or get ousted because they certainly don't support UAB.

Will UAB be in CUSA for hoops in the 2015-2016 season?

Congratulations to the Dragons. Welcome HOME!
Now someone needs to pay for this debacle. Hundreds of student athlete lives have been roiled, not to mention the genuine worry and consternation endured by the entire UAB community.
pitchforks up!

I have pulled for UAB from the beginning, but I am very uneasy about their future in C-USA, when people like Watts are calling the shots. I'd like to see the conference make them sign a binding agreement to reimburse the conference if they cancel football in the future.
It will be very tough for UAB to field a decent team in 2016. You have to think it will be 5 years before they will be competitive. CUSA essentially has 4 startups now with ODU,UTSA and Charlotte so that has to concern the Presidents.
The trolling is getting old now. We get it that you love the sun belt. Go back there. Nobody cares about you guys here
Local radio guy here in Hattiesburg raised some of the same points. Football was reinstated, but the two biggest issues which are UABOT control and need a new stadium remain. All they may have done was push this down the road another five years.

That's why somebody needs to be fired; so the next time this comes up, they will think twice.

RE: C-USA and UAB
I haven't kept up with the drama.....but I just cannot fathom how a school can make that big of a decision--to completely shut down a football program--and then bring it back SIX MONTHS later!
I can't decide, if I was a UAB fan, if I would be more pissed off now or if the program wasn't brought back. The program was just ruined for nothing. Where the hell was this movement for UAB football and why didn't it pick up steam before the freaking program was ruined?

RE: C-USA and UAB
No doubt the next few years will be tough for UAB. I wish them the best. Was the wrong decision made 6 mos ago and now corrected, or was the right one made and another mistake added on today? I have no idea. But no doubt the climb back up is going to be rough.
Hopefully the donors and town will stay with them long enough for them to recover. Hopefully UAB can gain control of their own affairs from the BOT.

Glad to have UAB back.
What about UAB conference revenue sharing for this year, has that been announced?

It's hard for me to pick between UAB and ODU. It will be a two team race for sure.

The decision was made in secret many months before it was revealed. It was obviously in the works by April 2014, when Trustee Finis St. John IV ordered work stopped on new turf for the practice field (a major SACS violation), a project to be paid for by a donor. And in the summer of 2014, when UAB declined their usual multi-year lease on Legion Field and specified just one year. Also last summer, the crisis management PR firm Sard Verbinnen produced a plan for announcing the decision, recommending it happen right after the last game so that players would not walk off the field in the middle of a game (this plan was leaked, and is available online). Donations for football not only were not solicited, they were not allowed.
In October 2014, the UAB Football Foundation was formed and Ray Watts refused its donation for a new practice facility. The Foundation also learned that UAB had no non-conference games scheduled past 2016, the only D-1A program for which this was the case. Athletic director Brian Mackin refused to answer questions about the possibility of a football shutdown - he would neither confirm nor deny. In early November 2014 Ray Watts told the Faculy Senate that no decision had been made regarding UAB football.
By mid-November we - that is, #FreeUAB - were mobilizing. But it was in opposition to Ray Watts. We were never asked to support any initiative by the university's administration and this past spring they even shut down the Foundation's season ticket drive with threats of legal action. There was no call for unity, and at this point, any continuation of the Ray Watts regime is unacceptable. The little pumpkin-headed bastard must go.
