UAB Football may be back in 2016, probably 2017.

I'm just glad a serious injustice has been fixed, although damaging as hell. Glad you folks are back and GL going forward.

Congratulations on getting football back. You got screwed but now that injustice has been righted. I wish UAB much success except when you play ODU. 03-lmfao

It will apply unless there is a waiver or they do a South Alabama and play a year of club football.

The plan would be to sign 25 in December that would count towards the Feb 2015 signing period, then sign another 25 in Feb 2016.

These would be heavy in Jucos and transfers. These 50 players plus the 25-30 that we still have on campus would make for a decent base. Hopefully the national press and new facilities (IPF) will help with recruiting.

Even if all that works out, 2016 will probably be rough.

Rough is an understatement. Y'all will be about 4 years behind Charlotte.

Ah. Unlikely, but I hope there's a huge crowd either way. I think the record is something like 45,000 -- surely that can be beaten.

I'm very happy for UAB and C-USA. This is great news. Stability and time is all this conference needs to become stronger and more relevant. Every season more and more fans are looking forward to our developing rivalries. More people in our markets are taking notice of our conference games. For example, last time UTEP played at North Texas I had a co-worker/UTEP Alum come to the game. He had such a good time, this season, He is bringing 5 of his alumni friends to the game.

I believe keeping this line-up of C-USA programs is a big key to competing with the MWC and AAC for the access bowl. I believe in the long term UAB, and by association, C-USA will become stronger from having gone through this ordeal. Again, congratulations!

To say UAB will be four years behind CHARLOTTE is absurd.Do you really believe your statement or just trying to stir crap?

It's going to be a lot worse than most of you think.
USM had lots of players return from 12-2. We proceeded to go 4-32 over the next 3 seasons, because of coaching changes.
You're going to be amazed at how difficult this will be.

That said, UAB has already won the biggest battle they faced. Having a program at all is a major victory.

This is truly unprecedented, so comparisons to SMU etc. may not hold. UAB shutdown for 6 months, lost a lot of players, coaches etc. But they retained the head coach, facilities and do not plan to play in 2015. Were the players who remained still doing S&C? Are these the depth guys or starters? How many are seniors and would the seniors consider giving the program an additional year? How many and how good will be the guys they sign in 2015? Can they find 4 OOC games for 2016?

Get a few teams with not a lot of offense, slow the game down, focus on good D and the run, keep your fingers crossed and they could surprise.

Everything depends on whether you have a good coach or a bad coach. We have teams in this conference who didn't give themselves the death penalty who aren't really that competitive as it is...ie that was UAB for about 7-8 years. We gave up 44 points a game in 2013 under Garrick Mcgee. I doubt UAB will give up 44 points a game 4 years from now in the 2018 season.

It entirely depends on how the scenario plays out. Will it be "You can be apart of something from the ground up that has revitalized support" or "You're joining a program that can be killed at any time and has no backing from the administration". Whichever scenario happens dictates the timeline. It also depends on the facilities and if the president stays at UAB. A lot of unknowns right now. Can we raise money for an IPF? Will UAB work with the city to ever do anything about a stadium? Who knows.

A whole lot better than not having a team and moving to the MVC or a worse conference.

Herd fans know what it's like to restart the program with only a few leftover players. I'm not being absurd.

Many of you seem to have no idea how difficult the next few years will be for UAB Football. They will be years behind Charlotte on the roster and without the optimism of a start-up program. Every loss will bring out the "I told you so" critics. I'm not piling on the Blazers. I'm just being real. They are in for some really tough times.

RE: UAB Football will be back in 2016, not 2015.
If UAB isn't behind Charlotte then Charlotte is in deep trouble. To be honest I don't see how anyone could thing any different. At this point UAB has a head coach and no one else...well 20 to 30 players that probably never saw any action. Most are 3rds or 4ths and if at this point Charlotte doesn't have way better talent...

they will lose 12 games and not be in any of them

It will take UAB 3 to 4 recruiting classes to build depth and depth is the deference maker in the 4th qt...as Western found out. Western was in a lot better position than either UAB or Charlotte but we couldn't close out games because we red shirted most of our classes when we moved up.

Actually the way some of you are thinking this is going to be easy..it's a put down to the teams in the conference. And while some of you might be correct and UAB wins in 2 to 3 years....it will probably be a huge set back in the long term. It will mean they most likely are not building depth because they rushed to get a team ready to play FBS too soon.

Recruiting wise Charlotte is in a lot better position because for a couple years coaches are going to beat recruits over the head with what just went down. All it will take is to send the recruit's parents a link to that press conference and most likely the comments by Watts that will come from his mouth over the next year. Of course UAB has playing time but it also takes away from future depth...not bodies, but players that can help. Football is not like basketball where you win with a lot of freshmen. It takes time for most kids to grow their body for football at this level.

If it was that easy...S. Miss would be back by now

Coaching does play a big part in that but come on you just had the president of UAB to tell the world...UAB will not spend a dime over what they are today. No room for a raise unless the fans pay for it. Has UAB even addressed cost of attendance and who's paying for it for football? Maybe that's in the added cost already?

I agree with the Marshall fan anyone that thinks this is going to as simple as get a team on the field in 2016 and the wins will come with that is fooling themself

They will be, Charlotte will have 4 years of FBS talent on the team by then and a ton of FCS level seniors.
