USF needs to be careful here. They ran Skip off and he did a good job here at East Carolina and now at Louisiana Tech. Taggart it's known for being a great recruiter and did a nice job at WKU. If they fire him too I'm not sure who's going to want the job? I mean I'm sure some up-and-coming Cordinator would want it and they might be better off but I doubt they would get a current FBS head coach to leave their current job for South Florida this time around.

With all the big 12 talk I don't think USF can afford to wait.

Not really.

Both pick Houston, Navy & Memphis to battle for the West.

Both pick USF and UConn to bring up the rear in the East.

Just about everybody is going to pick it this way. Three team race in the West. Four team race in the East.

BTW, Phil Steele is the most accurate preseason magazine over the last 3, 5 and 10 years. CITE

Not just these two (though there is significant differences). Im talking about all of them. Ive seen Memphis, UCF, Cinci, and Temple tapped as the winner by some others. Sounds like half the league has a shot.

First off Big 12 is not moving anytime soon and when they do it will be who can bring them the most money tv wise, additions are long term they aren't determined by 4-5 years of success or lack of it in football.
Secondly IF Taggart does get fired there will be plenty of good applicants, USF still a pretty good job opportunity for an up and coming coach from the SunBelt,MAC etc or assistant coach.
But I think USF will do good enough this year that Taggart will remain.

I could see Temple finishing anywhere from 1st to 5th. I have faith in the defense but the offense remains a big concern imo. Walker and Co. were simply horrific at times last year which kept us from being anything more than middling/average.

Ultimately, I believe we'll be marginally better but still not good enough to garner national respect. A win over PSU to start the year would obviously change my tune.

The psu game will be tough this year. I think Hackenberg takes the next step.

While I believe it will be a competitive game and we'll have a chance to win, in the end the drought against PSU will continue. I was at Beaver Stadium last November to witness that debacle. Hackenberg and Walker combined for an atrocious game. It was truly painful to watch. At the end of the day, PSU's talent just grinded out more momentum plays which allowed them to pull away in the second half.

Between PSU and ND, we have a far better shot against the Lions. ND will be better off without Golston imo. Overall, the Irish skill guys are way better than PSU's. Hackenberg really doesn't have a lot to work with outside of Daesean Hamilton....

The best thing ECU has going for them is they play division opponents their last 5 games. If they can survive that tough non conference schedule, and take 2 of 3 from SMU/Navy/Tulsa they could easily win the east. On the other hand the could be completely gassed and fall on their face like they did last year.

Not really. What's more important is who they have at home. Cincy and Temple having to make the trip to Dowdy is pretty big, especially Cincy being the last game of the year. IF ECU is play well, it should be a tight game. Temple seems to be predicted to be as good as if not a little better than ECU, but putting them in Dowdy will probably tilt things in ECU's favor.

The game that ECU needs to look out for is the UCONN game. After what should be two home wins and potentially with ECU at just one loss in conference (Navy) it could be pretty easy for them to slip up and pull a game like they did at Temple last year. Losing a game like UCONN could put ECU in a position where they have to win the final two games and need help.

ECU has finally gotten to the point that the tough OOC doesn't matter as much as it used to. The conditioning is second to none, and ECU has recruited the bigger bodies and backfilled with JUCO's that can handle the grind. This year sets up nicely with SMU between VaTech and BYU, both of which should be competitive games that ECU has very real chances to win. If ECU gets through BYU without injuries the rest of the schedule is extremely manageable with the home and away split as well as the late bye.

I think ECU has the potential to push for the East, but will need a little help along the way.

I don't think usf will contend next year but they shouldn't be overlooked. I don't think they seriously content for the east until next year at the earliest

Yep. Taggert* is onto something at USF...year after year you see Bulls football develop into a jugernaut under Taggert.

*Taggert can recruit.

6-6 buys another year.
4-8 Fired, no questions asked
5-7 depends on how much progress is being shown. If offense still sucks and this up temp spread doesn't take hold, he's gone. If, however, on the other hand, USF offense takes off, and they just miss out on bowl eligibility by a hair, then maybe he gets another year.

I personally wanted Taggart gone at end of last year, and I made that clear. However, I do believe he will get to 6 or 7 wins this year. He's just brought in too much sheer talent not to improve. At the very least, the next coach will have some pieces to work with. I am also going to go out on a big limb and say Quinton Flowers will be one of, if not the, surprise players in AAC this year.

That's exactly what I said and I agree I think USF is going to surprise many on this board this year that are predicting Bulls in last place

I don't mind if USF surprises by winning several conference games as long as they beat at least one of:

Maryland
Syracuse
Florida St

But when you are predicted to finish last, don't go 1-3 in the nonconference (particularly with blow out losses) and then go 4-4 or 5-3 in conference. It makes the whole conference look terrible.

I think USF will go 2-2 in non conference match ups. If you look at USFs history winning out of conference games has not been the problem.

You should and need to beat Syracuse at home. The other 2 are likely losses.

I think we will beat Cuse at home
FSU on the road is a loss
Maryland on the road is most likely a loss but could be a surprise

The same quinton flowers that completed 40% of his passes for 0 tds and 2 int's? I watched him play in a few games last year and was not impressed at all. And now he has to learn and play in a completely new offense. Just don't see it happening next year for the school to the west. Maybe if there was a proven coaching staff that knew how to develop players and win but that's not the case. But hey, that's why we play the games. There's a difference between recruiting talent and winning. Look at uf. I think 5 wins is the best case scenario for usf next year.

While I'm not really a QF fan, I'll admit that the new offense is exactly what QF has been playing in HS. So, he should feel right at home. Many of the plays are variation's of ones he performed regularly in HS as well. He's just got better skill players on the field with him now. 04-cheers

He hardly got any playing time last year, he was a true freshman trying to play an offense that doesn't suit him and is hard to learn, and his brother just died.

By all accounts he grew by leaps and bounds this spring when the new spread offense was installed.
