RE: Summer down time
My brother bought a 22 foot sailboat and keeps it docked in wilmington, so I'll be down there about 2 weekends each month.

Probably throw in some camping trips to mountains in between those weekends some too.

I live downtown. I have 3 lakes that are 25 minutes or less away.

Great city for boating, but unfortunately I don't have one yet and my best friend sold his at rhe end of last summer.

Kayak, fish, ride ATVs (we call them 4-wheelers,) work old food plots/make new food plots, coyote hunt. Also living in WV, I have access to great camping, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, Hatfield/McCoy Trails. There are plenty of things to do over the summer.

I probably spend more time in my garden than anywhere else though. Nothing like growing your own food imo.

Living south of Bowling Green it makes for a easy trip to Nashville so that's where I keep my boat slipped and I guess I call my second home. Surprisingly Nashville has great water life, from fishing , skiing , wake boarding or just anchored out in a nice cove and drinking a cold beer

No need to go to Tennessee to find a nice lake, you have Rough River, Nolin, Barren, Cumberland, Kentucky, Barkley and a few others right in the Bluegrass quite a few nice lakes in a state as small as Kentucky.

I love lake Cumberland , it's one of the prettiest lakes in the country but it's a 2 hour drive for me. Barren lake is a hour drive and it's not the best lake for a 40 foot cruiser. Old hickory lake is under a hours drive and gives me the option of going through the lock and cruising down river or to downtown Nashville.

RE: Summer down time
Summer is actually about the only time I work...we still travel to the Gulf or S. Fla once a month for a week to get in some deep sea fishing and beach time. And up to KY lake or one of the area lakes to fish a couple days a week while we are at home. We also love Nashville so we will spend a Friday or Saturday down there twice a month. Then I try to get in a few days of work each week...

Sept-March is all Western...everything we do is planned AROUND the Western football and basketball schedule. The only thing that interferes with it is major health issues. Anything planned by family or friends during those months will not involve my wife and I unless it's around the schedule.

Throwing woofle balls at the son and trying to snag a few waves between all the kids bday parties. I feel like that's what our lives have been reduced to, kids bday parties and house work.

RE: Summer down time
I just spent all evening in the garden. Planted more zucchini, squash, watermelon, and green beans. They are all 3 weeks behind the first planting. Will plant a few more in another 3 weeks. This way they come in peak harvest at different times.

Also did the first and only summer planting of spinach, chard, carrots, and parsley.

I've always enjoyed working with wood. Something very gratifying about a completed project

This is how I spend my downtime too. I'm in the process of restoring a 40 something year old jointer from my wife's late grandfather.

Every summer, I work out and exercise and get into really good shape. And then football season starts and I go back to drinking and junk food.
