Reese and Jacoby Awards
NIU finished 7th in the Reese (men's) and 5th in the Jacoby (women's) awards. Baby steps.

RE: Reese and Jacoby Awards
In 2011 the NIU men side won the MACC, Soccer tournament and the tennis regular season yet weren't even close to a top 5 finish...I really don't care about these standing and neither do average fans.

Found that year...

What's important is that we are ahead of Toledo in that year! I guess that football recruiting rankings don't count. 05-stirthepot

That's a shame.
If I'm a past, current or potential future member of an NIU soccer, basketball, volleyball, golf, tennis, softball, baseball, gymnastics, cross country, track and field, or wrestling team, I'm so motivated to succeed and can't wait to donate money upon graduation.
Why not tell Frazier to start saving some money and scrap that part of the master plan that was supposed to help the Olympic sports.

If the Olympic sports building can be built with donations specifically for that then fine....I doubt it will happen unless we get in the B12. However if we have no chance of joining the B12 then I am all for dropping Wrestling and Gymnastics. With the money saved just drop the amount that comes from the student fees.

I used to not care about the so called "Olympic sports" but that changed when my son and daughters began competing in sports through high school. I now have a greater appreciation for the athletic ability and commitment for kids that run, swim, or play a sport other than football or basketball. There are some phenomenal athletes in these sports, and their accomplishments should be recognized even if they don't compete in a "revenue" sport (an oxymoron in the case of any and all MAC football and basketball programs).

I have an appreciation for them. I was a 3 year Wrestler in high school. One of my friends at NIU was a walk on who tried to make the team. My 2 girls are now into gymnastics, we have attended one event this past year and plan to attend more this next season. However, if there is ever a point where getting into the B12 is totally out of the picture and people are not donating millions towards the new building then I think the programs should be shut down for the sake of saving a few hundred thousand and passing the savings off to the students.

Not clear on what the end of that statement means -- "saving a few hundred thousand and passing the savings off to the students." Exactly who are the students the few hundred thousand saved are being passed onto? Football players, the Olympic sport athletes, the general student body?

General students...to reduce their fees. It wouldn't be much but as it was pointed out NIU has the highest % of the schools in Illinois.

Congratulations to NIU Athletics for improving four places on the Men's side and six places on the Women's side in the 2014-2015 Reese and Jacoby standings. I hope to see the Men challenge moving into the top third of scores and the women compete for a Top 3 standing in 2015-2016.

Because NIU's budget is being cut by 31% and fully funding in sports that are not required by your conference, or possible future conference, seems like an easy place to cut.

There is an NCAA minimum number of sports programs to compete in Division I which is 16. NIU currently at 17 if you include women's indoor/outdoor track as two separate programs. Believe there are also minimum number of men's/women's programs.

I am a big proponent of women's sports and I commend the NIU women for their improvement.

My favorite sport at NIU is women's basketball - even over football and men's basketball. I fell in love with women's basketball after seeing how hard the women play and the excitement and passion they have for the game. They play cleanly and respectfully. Albeit small, there is a dedicated group of supporters who go to the games, and one of the best decisions I made was to get season tickets. Season tickets are a bargain.

The fact that the women's games are now on ESPN3 is a delight because I can't attend the weeknight games. So at least I can still watch them. (Same with the men.)

Alright so gymnastics is the only one not required by all 3 but really there is no chance of dropping a single women's team and not a men's team.

Any how since the AAC doesn't sponsor Wrestling or Gymnastics I would bet both of those sports could stay in the MAC if we were to move to the AAC.
