Breaking News - UAB Football, Bowling, and Rifle
Any chance that the meeting might be to draft up a severance package and/or succession plan for Ray Watts? If the decision was truly his to drop football, the board should not need to be involved unless if financing is needed for capital expenditures.

Tuscaloosa doesn't have a president and the system chancellor is about to retire. Scuttlebutt is that the board is in no mood to fill three executive seats simultaneously, and Watts will be around only until one or both of those seats are filled.

I'd bet you a Coke he's gone by Christmas, supplied with a ridiculous golden parachute and a bulletproof NDA.

RE: Breaking News - UAB Football, Bowling, and Rifle
So I'm eating at the Olive Garden when this kid started badgering his parents to get him an adult entrée instead of something from the kids menu. His parents knew he wasn't going to eat it but for the sake of making a big scene, they gave in. When the kid got his meal, sure enough he didn't touch it.

UAB fans, don't be this kid.

I also remember a few years ago when Fake GSU fans ridiculed the FCS and proclaimed that their program was being built to compete in the FBS. Well, once they got their wish, they were never heard from again as evident by the thousands of empty Georgia Dome seats.

UAB fans, don't be those fake Georgia State fans either.

Let's hope UAB fans prove that they want UAB football back by putting their butts in the seats.

I don't believe they have any incentive to stop the return now. They can come off looking like the good guys to the ignorant masses, they've set you back probably in excess of five years, won't cost them a dime for five years.

My question is can Clark be rehired, will he take the job, and is it worth it to him to rebuild this thing? He's a special guy but I imagine the monkey business has jaded even a good, caring coach like him against UAB, as far as the administration is concerned.

We won't magically average 40,000 in 2017. Starting over from scratch will take work but we have to do a better job of selling tickets.

If they brand it correctly and put in real effort then they can sell 10 to 15 thousand season tickets for UAB football before they ever even play another down. People really, really like Bill Clark in general. Your average football fan in Alabama knows he is a good coach and would pay to see a team coached by him, especially after this ordeal.

Considering we averaged 23k in the 2014 season (6th in C-USA), we'll be fine. This was on a 6-6 team that hadn't had a winning season in a decade.

Might take several minor miracles, but I know that all the peeps that I know from Herdland are rooting like hell for UAB to make it. Honored to be conference mates w/ you folks. Hate like crazy what's happened, and can't help but think that this type of thing could potentially happen to ANY of us smaller schools having to take the scraps from our "big brothers" in-state type of things. We are all..UAB. GL Dragons.

Man what a haul. The party on the green Monday night will be an unbelievable emotional release. Thanks to the few non UAB fans here that believed.

I woke up this morning and the first thought in my head was... Damn, it's a great day to be a Blazer.

To answer your question.

Yes. Simply there is no question who our coach will be.

Clark CAN NOT be rehired. He refused to take a payout and has remained on the payroll the entire time. At this time Bill Clark is still serving as UAB's head football coach he just doesn't have a team to coach. From what I have been told by people who speak to Bill Clark often and at length is he has a plan in place and is excited and motivated to do this. He had job offers. Good job offers. He remained committed to UAB even when UAB was not committed to him.

Attallablaze,

How large is the board of trustees?

I really think watts is just the water-carrier for the anti-UAB members. Either they have the votes thanks to the pressure put on by FreeUAB, or the board is allowing watts to save face by recommending reinstatement.

Hopefully it's the former!

That goes for just about every C-USA school, including my Rice Owls.

15. Three truly evil people and 12 jellyfish.

Scuttlebutt is that the jellyfish might have come down with a case of backbone.

We'll see.

MT (and to a lesser extent our hated rival Western) benefit significantly if UAB retains FB and stays in CUSA. Birmingham is only about 180 miles from Nashville. That puts Middle within just a couple of hours drive of both the Hill Toppers and Blazers. No Excuse for failing to grow these rivalries, sell more tickets and gain more exposure for all three.

If UAB reinstates FB then I predict the 2016 conference basketball tournament will be in Birmingham! Again! And it will be great to see that happen for the Blazer fans. Fingers crossed that the right thing is done and football is back at UAB on Monday.
