Long story in the Houston Chronicle this morning about Baylor's efforts to upgrade their football schedule.

It will probably be tempting for them to buy out the last game of a 2 and 2 series with Rice, scheduled to be played at Rice in 2016. I hope we have a good buyout clause in that contract.

I remember the time Purdue lost to Rice at Rice a few years back. I still have nightmares, so don't go there. xD

Rice blocked a game-winning field goal attempt by the Boilermakers as time expired. It was a very memorable game. 04-cheers

Looking at Baylor's schedules, that Rice game is the least of their problems!

Definitely agree. In 2015, Rice is the flagship out of conference opponent in comparison to SMU (1-11 in 2014) and FCS Lamar. How many of us do you think Art Briles rolls up the score on?

It's the Chronicle article comment about Baylor looking for opponents willing to play a single game at a neutral site that worries me. If they find such a P5 opponent, I think the Bears will want out of their scheduled road games.

The money Baylor would get to play a neutral-site game (say, in Atlanta vs. an SEC team) would be at least two or three times what they'd have to pay to buy out a non-con road game.

Rice went 8-5 last year. Lamar went 8-4. Lamar have improved a lot last year from the year before.

RE: Baylor
IF other Big XII teams lose most of their P5 OOC games (a real possibility this year), how can you tell if Baylor is elite or not? (answer: you can't).

CFP Era Rule: Don't rely on your conference mates to be excellent. Play at least one P5 opponent which is good enough to boost your resume no matter what the rest of your conference does.

Worked at Tulane from 1992-97.

Good guy. Seems to be having a lot of success at Baylor. Good for him.

I wonder if that game will replace the proposed bowl game in Australia. A planned early season OOC game is much easier to pull off as you have a year to get everyone set up with passports. A bowl game will be tight trying to make sure everyone has a passport in less than a month.

UTSA already has a 2-1 w/ Baylor in years 2017-19.

I'm assuming that was snark, but just in case it wasn't...

Oregon State and Stanford are the only Pac-12 teams that have announced only 2 non-con games for 2016. Of course, another team could always cancel one of its announced games or move it to a different season to accommodate an Australia game in 2016.

That right there would be enough for me, if I was a high school player that they were recruiting, to not commit to Baylor. You want to visit Australia? Great! Don't do it with a quick turn around college football game though. That is a very long flight.
