Sun Belt school "specialties"?
I'm curious if people here see their school's athletic program as being more centered around one sport (e.g. a "football school" or a "basketball school") and how you perceive the other member schools.

Personally, I consider Georgia Southern and App. State to be true football schools even though both have some strong non-football sports.

I consider Troy, Texas State, ULM, and Arkansas State to be somewhat in the mold of GS and App but somewhat more well-rounded and less football-centric.

I consider UL, South Alabama, Georgia State, UTA, UALR to be "balanced" athletic programs.

I don't think we really have what I would call a basketball school as a full member (I would call NMSU and WKU basketball schools).

My opinions are subject to change as I become more familiar with the league members.

Our Specialties are Women's Bowling and Rugby. Both are usually ranked in the top 3 nationally.

We have the most success in baseball, and we are also becoming a consistent softball power as well. We expect to win at basketball but are very inconsistent there. We are waiting for our football to mature and blow the dorms off this place, but I feel we need an OCS to be serious about it.

We've also had success in tennis.

I don't know how other Bobcats feel but I've never really felt like we identified with any sport till recently. If I had to pick one I would say Baseball, but I see this school becoming more Football Focused every year.

Volleyball has been, by far, the best sport at TXST; if you are considering record and success. Baseball/softball have been good the past decade, not great.

Although I have to agree there is not one that can be singled out as an outstanding team to be associated with regionally or nationally. (ie: put us on the map)

We've had the most success in baseball, but we try to be a football school.

I've never heard of a school being any "women's sports school" so I basically boil it down to baseball, basketball, or football.

I don't know (and maybe I'm all alone on this) but when I think of Tennessee I think of Women's Basketball and Coach Summitt. Same for UConn. I rarely think of them as a football school. I think of the women's basketball.

I know, I'm weird. Deal with it.

I think of UConn women's basketball first. I think of Tennessee football first but second is women's basketball. I used to think of LaTech as women's basketball as well.

I would consider UL a football first priority school, but are very successful in baseball, and softball. We put a lot of effort in baseball, and softball. If the athletic department at UL would recieve a death blow, or would collapse tomorrow that baseball and softball would be there. To much tradition in those sports to give it up.

Lol right?

Troy has always been a football and baseball school. Football is far above everything else fan wise tho. And it's what we focus a lot of our recources on.

Our women's sports have improved drastically recently. But we will likely always be football and baseball as most popular.

She won the 10,000 meters National Title twice.

And despite out basketball history, we have an NBA head coach as Alvin Gentry, App grad, was hired by the Pelicans today.

We also had a 3rd (184 lbs) and 4th (165 lbs) place finishers in the 2012 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Right now we've got a Heavyweight whose going to be an All-American (top nine) before he graduates in two years.

With the training conditions up in Boone I'd hope your CC teams would be competitive. Would be a bit of a let down if they weren't.
