Hmm didn't some guy named Armstrong say they were liars and cheats. I'm not praising the man but, it takes one to know one. In this case it appears he spoke the Gospel.

Early announcements have said that the WC will still be held in Qatar; with that plus the slave labor accusations I think whatever legitimacy FIFA has will disappear if the WC is indeed played there. 2022 is shaping up to make the Sochi Olympics look like a masterpiece.

A 2018 World Cup in Russia will be just as bad, or worse. Russia doesn't take a back seat to FIFA or anyone else when it comes to corruption, and everyone will have to watch the games while pretending that Putin isn't still sending Russian troops to pose as indigenous rebels and start "civil wars" in other eastern European countries.

They're spending many times more than that on this World Cup project.

FIFA effectively can't/won't pull the World Cups from Russia and Qatar at this point because that *guarantees* all of the people that have bribed them will come out of the woodwork and go on the record.

You can tell just based upon the most recent host cities that many Western nations are sick of both of their acts.

Maybe Rio de Janeiro will be relieved of hosting next year's Olympics, they've had trouble with construction.

Normally I'm not a fan of using sporting events as a political statement (see 1980 Moscow Olympics), but I'd perfectly fine if the US (and others) opted to boycott the 2018 and 2022 Cups.

It's at the point where it will take mass boycotts and sponsor pressure to get real reform.

US boycotting would mean next to nothing. UEFA (European) countries followed by CONMEBOL (South America) are the only ones that would make a difference.
