I will masturbate in the middle of S. Park street (which I believe I still owe it) if we make the playoffs, holding up a #1 foam sign while doing it one-handed.

RE: Bronco's dark horse for playoffs
From article blown up key point:
Quote:The concern is that, unlike last year, the Broncos don't have a couple of bye weeks thrown into their non conference schedule.

Yeah, that's what's stopping us. Not MSU & Ohio State... it's that we don't have any bye weeks in there. Man, if only we did! We could make the playoffs! 03-wink

Quote:Don't forget, the top Group of 5 team gets the bid, so would a 12-1 WMU team with wins over NIU, Toledo, and MSU get in over Boise State (assuming they too had 1 loss)?

This is still dreaming, but since we're in never-never land... if our only loss is to Ohio State, and MSU battles OSU for the divisional winner after beating Oregon -- while the MAC has a decent year (which we're due for)... YES. We would most likely make the BCS Bowl.

W Beating MSU
W Beating Defending Sun Belt Conference Champs @GA-Southern
L Losing to Defending National Champs @The Ohio State
W Beating Defending MAC-East Champs Bowling Green
W Beating #2 MAC-East team @Ohio
W Beating Defending MAC Conference Champs @NIU
W Beating Otherwise Best in the MAC @Toledo
W Beating all the rest (BSU [DARK HORSE], Miami-OH [improved], CMU, @EMU, FCS team)

BOISE:
- Washington Huskies
- @BYU
- @Virginia
- @Colorado St
- @Utah State
- Air Force
- Beating all the rest (@San Jose St, Wyoming, Hawaii, @UNLV, New Mexico, FCS team)

RE: Bronco's dark horse for playoffs
A good exercise in the kind of mindset needed to be elite.

I'd like to see a discussion of what it would take to hit slots #20 to 25 in the rankings. Is that possible this year? Would a three loss season get us there, given the SOS?

RE: Bronco's dark horse for playoffs
I would suspect beating MSU would only jump us into the "also receiving votes" category. 26-30 range. Starting 2-0 might get us to No. 24-25. Then lose to Ohio State by 17 or less and drop to 28. Run the rest of the MAC and take home the championship to go 12-1 would probably climb us somewhere in the No. 15-19 range. 11-2 or 10-3 with MSU win finishes us somewhere at No. 20-22. Without MSU win - 24-25

If we wanna do crazy talk - beat OSU in Columbus and go undefeated and we should be in the National Championship discussion.

RE: Bronco's dark horse for playoffs
If we win the MAC, we'll most likely be ranked this year. It's more like how Wouldn't we be ranked, if we won the MAC. For the East, there'd be more room not to be ranked winning the MAC. But in the West? This year's going to be a good year of the MAC. Going 7-1 in the MAC (losing to either Toledo or NIU but getting tie-breaker or team we lost to having 2 MAC losses) -- and beating a good BGSU or Ohio team (again) in the MAC Championship game -- that will get us ranked unless we looked BAD winning our gimmie-games or something (kind like how NIU was last year).

MINIMUM:
- 9-4 MAC Champs (Stomping teams we should; putting up a close fight with MSU or OSU; losing close to SunBelt champs @GA-Southern; losing to @NIU or @Toledo)
- 9-3 2nd-Place MAC West (Stomping teams we should; putting up a close fight with MSU or OSU; BEATING SunBelt champs @GA-Southern; losing to @NIU or @Toledo)

MOST LIKELY RANKED:
- 10-3 MAC Champs (Losing to OSU & MSU; Beating SunBelt champs @GA-Southern; losing to @NIU or @Toledo)
- 9-3 2nd-Place MAC West (Close fights with both MSU & OSU; Beating SunBelt champs @GA-Southern; beating then ranked @Toledo/@NIU; losing barn-burner to ranked @Toledo/@NIU)

GUARANSHEED TO BE RANKED:
- 11-2 MAC Champs (Losing to OSU & MSU; Winning the rest)
- 10-3 MAC Champs (Losing OSU/MSU one of them kinda close; losing to @GA-Southern who ends up being 1-loss team; beating both @Toledo + @NIU who are great)

No way a MAC team with three losses finishes in Top-25, unless they have an impressive win against a P5 opponent.

Playing MSU and O State, together with NIU and Toledo and Georgia Southern is pretty much a P5 schedule? Win 2 or 3 of those and run the rest deserves top 25.

But as we have learned in a P5 dominated college football landscape, deserves often have nothing to do with it.

Run the MAC and beat a Sun Belt team=Top 25, absolutely not! There is no signature P-5 win.

RE: Bronco's dark horse for playoffs
One of the things that thegeneral liked about me was my complete disregard of all things P5.

But I did watch the new Playoff last year. OSU is scary. I won't delude myself about our chances. I'll be praying for our mens' safety.

But I'll be overly-optimistic about all the other games on our schedule. 02-13-banana

I disagree. It's very low-likely, but it could happen. If 2 of your teams are in the Top 5, while also having a conference champ, a ranked team, and a division champ in your schedule -- along with an extra challenging (conf champ) game had that they win -- 3 wins could do it. It would also require playing such Top 5 teams pretty challenging + stomping everyone you should be way better than.

It rarely happens because said G5 team will have 1 P5 in the Top 25, 1 P5 who's around .500, one G5 who's so-so, 1 FCS/D1AA team... while playing a couple conf members who have votes to be ranked. Yeah, 3 losses is Not going to allow you to be ranked.

But with our crazy schedule, it would give us leeway to have 3 losses w/ a MAC Championship @ 10-3. How we won those 10 wins and how we lost those 3 losses would make the decision in whether we'd be ranked or not.
