New Mexico Policeman Shot And Killed....

Another officer is gunned down by a thug. A veteran with a wife and five children. So sad.

Quote:A police officer in a suburb of Albuquerque was shot and killed during a traffic stop, the first time a Rio Rancho officer was fatally shot in the line of duty in the department's 34-year history.

Officer Gregg Benner, 49, a military veteran who had been with the Rio Rancho Police Department for four years, was gunned down while pulling over a vehicle shortly after 8pm on Monday, authorities said.

The cop was rushed to University of New Mexico hospital but did not survive. He leaves his wife and five adult children.

Andrew Romero, 28, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting, according to abqjournal.com.

He has a lengthy criminal history including being charged with voluntary manslaughter in 2005.

Police were not looking for any additional suspects.

Rio Rancho Mayor Greggory Hull said the tight-knit city was mourning Benner's death.

'Our police officers hold a special place in our hearts as they lay their lives on the line every day protecting our safety and this is a stark reminder of their sacrifice,' Hull said in a statement.

Bernalillo County sheriff's Sgt. Aaron Williamson said several agencies helped with the apprehension about 20 miles from where the officer was shot on a side road off a busy street.

Elijah Ortiz y Pino, 15, told the Albuquerque Journal that he was turning a corner on his bicycle Monday night when he heard a siren and then four gunshots.

Ortiz y Pino said he saw an officer lying on his back in the roadway near the curb and a man was administering CPR.

It was not known who found the officer.

Curious, is this becoming the "x kills cop" and "cop kills x" bulletin board?

This Long Beach, MS police officer can thank his dog for preventing his murder.

Quote:A police officer who was dragged into the woods by three attackers was saved thanks to his trusty dog.

Deputy Todd Frazier of Long Beach, Mississippi, a K-9 officer, pulled over last Monday night to check on a car when he noticed that the man in the front seat appeared to be passed out and the lights were off.

That is when two men appeared nearby and distracted him as the driver got out and ambushed him. All three men dragged Frazier into the nearby woods.

'They told him they were going to slit his throat, and they were dragging him toward the woods,' Chief Deputy Don Bass said according to The Clarion-Ledger.

He said the men then planned on dumping the body after killing him.

When asked if the incident might have something to do with recent gangs stating they would attack any police officers they encountered on sight, Bass said: 'At this point in time I don't care.'

Bass later conceded the incident may have to do with gangs in the area.

'We've been stressing this for months and months now. It's no different from last week. We get a BOLO (be-on-the-lookout) from the state alerting us that the Black Gangster Disciples have put out an SOS, or Shoot on Sight, for police officers,' he said.

'For a couple of months we've been preaching safety because we knew our location between New Orleans and on the I-10 corridor... it's going to happen here.'

The three suspects remain at large.

Yes.

But it's not an epidemic.

The police in Baltimore have pulled back and the animals in the zoo are on a rampage of killing and stealing. It will happen more and more.
