Virginia Tech & ACC Coastal Strength
Local sports talk guy in Atlanta was discussing the strengths of the various divisions in football.

He was making a case for ACC Coastal to be one of the weakest in NCAA.

A question he failed to address, should Va Tech's victory over Ohio State be considered a source of strength for the division?

I guess since Miami hasn't done much in the Coastal, the media darlings don't give the rest of the division credit for anything

RE: Virginia Tech & ACC Coastal Strength
The division is strong.
The casual fan perception of the division is, as human nature goes, weak.

Georgia Tech took FSU to the limit with a team that was by all accounts, "a year away", then turned around and ran roughshod of the SEC West outfit that just about unseated 'Bama.

Duke, with a suspect Jekyl/Hyde QB and several key personnel injuries, damn near pulled off a division repeat

Had those two names been "Virginia Tech" and "Miami", everyone would be salivating about the "Strength of the Division", yada yada yada, blah blah blah ...

Y'all don't need to worry about Virginia Tech football being "down" much longer. 06-football The Hokies are coming this Fall... the only thing you need to ask yourselves: will your team be ready for them? 05-mafia It's woodshed time!

Even a blind squirrel... just be glad you don't have VT on the schedule THIS year!

The coastal is weak. And no, a qb-less Ohio state win shouldn't count as some bragging/bonus point.

So a full-strength VT gets no credit for beating OSU but VT doesn't get the same consideration when losing all their RB's?

Vt loses credit because it was the third straight year of mediocrity.

RE: Virginia Tech & ACC Coastal Strength
When VT was at full strength, they went into Columbus and whipped Ohio State.

After all of the RBs, plus half of the DBs, DLs and OLs went down with injury, the Hokies started losing.

But keep thinking VT is mediocre. I prefer whipping cocky teams.

You don't think the last 3 years have been the definition of mediocre?

Just in case you have forgotten: 22-17 (12-12).

No doubt, no denying. However, I have reason to think THIS year will be special.

You can't have it both ways. If a team is truly strong, they don't lose 6-3 in 2OT to a Wake Forest team in its first year under a new coach.

What do you consider "special"? I'm going to believe you lose to Ohio State and that 2/3 of your remaining schedule is losable (every game between, but not including, Purdue and Virginia) until your team proves otherwise. And my reasoning for that is the last 3 seasons and Beamer seemingly having lost "it".

seems the thing that makes a special year at VPI is filling the empty trophy case.

Did you pick up a sweet QB off free agency or the waiver wire?

Losing 4 starting running backs puts a lot of pressure on a QB on a team that didn't have a good set of receivers in the first place. Things start to fall apart quickly when you go from being 1 dimensional to no dimensional.

You guys are all hopes up riding high ... I'm in the "Beamer is a Bobby Bowden at the end of his career" situation camp. And if you guys actually hire his son to replace him then you'll REALLLLLLLLLY be swimming in it.

I have no idea if the Coastal Division is weak or strong as nobody in that division will play their first game for three more months and because I am not a psychic.

You can blame me, VT fans. I moved to Virginia a few months before the 2012 season. I must be bad luck for VT Football.

However, the good news is that I am looking to move back to the Winston-Salem/Greensboro area by the end of the year!
