Good news - Nick Saban argues for "level playing field" in college sports
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nca.../27980501/

...Saban said "If we're going to compete for the championship and everybody is going to play in the playoff system and everybody's going to compete for that, we need to get our rules in alignment so we're all on a level playing field....

...Take so-called satellite camps, for instance. The SEC doesn't like them because it allows schools from the Midwest — Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State, specifically — to have a bigger recruiting presence in the South. The Big Ten, which doesn't have as many talented players in its geographic footprint, wants the ability to keep doing them. (SEC incoming commissioner Greg Sankey said the league will propose a national rule to mimic the SEC's.)...

...And then there's the entire cost of attendance issue, which has coaches up in arms because players at Tennessee and Auburn will be getting stipends of more than $5,500 while Georgia's players get around $3,200 based on how each school's financial aid office calculates estimated costs above tuition, room and board.

"Big-picture wise, I mean even in the NFL they have a salary cap," Saban said. "You can't create a system that, really, can almost promote fraud. But when we don't have a cap that makes it equal for everyone, it's really going to go against all the things we've tried to do in the NCAA in terms of having parity for players in what you're allowed to give them....

So Saban wants to get rid of AQ non-AQ or "contract conferences" and non-contract conferences? Also, is he for giving the G5's representation in the autonomous governance model? Yeah.....I didn't think so.

It's every school/conference for itself. There is no salary cap and there are no rules.

So it's going to be the same 10 teams competing for the championship every year and it will be incredibly boring.

I don't even think he wants that --- hence the SEC's move to bar *all* satellite camps.

It's obvious he's looking out for his own interest and anyone in position to leverage things that help you that doesn't in a business your ass could get fired and lively hood reduced or completely taken are an idiot not to.

That's what I don't get about ECU fans talking about fairness and all this total shat when they say we should do stuff like home and homes with App or UNCC. It's in our direct interest not to give them jack if we don't have to and to out spend their ass on stipends and anything else we can to keep our self in position over them.

Saban just wants to correct the 'uneven playing field' his commissioner once argued for >>>

"We all have to adjust to a new foundation or basis for legislation, and when it's no longer (about) level playing field and it's about kids, it's about students, you're going to end up with differentials we're all going to have to learn to live with," outgoing SEC commissioner Mike Slive said.

What's he really up to....

And boy...this satellite campus issue is really touchy for the SEC.

Just mad like Debbie Yow that some schools can give more stipends then others. He's mad Auburn is giving 5,500 just like Debbie is mad East Carolina is giving more than NC State.

RE: Good news - Nick Saban argues for "level playing field" in college sports
if you read other articles it points out he wants a even playing field for p5

and insinuates he doesnt really think anyone else should really be in contention

the irony of this article is that saban is calling for this because he thinks the sec is at a recruiting disadvantage not being allowed satellite camp
but has no problem with the recruiting advantage of having a auto bid and other conferences not

Saban doesn't want any other conferences in the rich recruiting grounds controlled by the SEC. The SEC doesn't really need to recruit outside of the south. Hence, the SEC's call for *all* conferences to be barred from using satellite camps.

Do you feel bad for NC State? I don't screw them. Screw treating App State, UNCC or ODU anyway that doesn't benifeit our program either and let them figure their own finances out and while they do we should be figuring out exactly how to keep the playing field legally unlevel in our favor and them down. That's just business and they would do the same to us so I feel no pitty for any of them.

Bwahahaha.

Saban bama level playing field

Bwahahaha

He would play with 14 players, a nerf ball, tear away jerseys and 5 downs if he could get away with it

Come on man, stahp

Saban doesn't even want a level playing field when he is shaking hands after the game with other coaches. Heck they angle the camera to make him look taller. There are more slanted cameras in alabama than anywhere on earth

Bwhahahaha

Differences in COA will affect the G5 as well. App State for example is offering like $5,500 for COA. My school is only offering about half that. I'm not sure how App's COA is considered that much higher than ours, but somehow they got the formula to say that.

I didn't really have a problem with COA when I thought it would be a flat amount across the board, but with each school getting to offer different amounts, it is a terrible system.

Well, in theory there has to be some logic as to why it's higher at one place and lower at the other.

Initially I thought that urban / Northern / SoCal schools would have higher COA just due to cost of living, renting off campus, etc. Now it doesn't seem that way. In fact it seems to be the inverse of that. Maybe it's due to the costs associated with traveling back and forth home from a rural campus? Maybe there's stuff that varies significantly in what base tuition, books, etc covers?

I have no idea how they're coming up with these numbers but something about it stinks.

Nevermind, also, that the SEC has been at a recruiting advantage over, say, the Big Ten because it allows oversigning and the Big Ten does not.
