Is that you, Harvey?

No but there are Harveys among UAB fans too.

I might fertilize them with kidney-filtered beer. Especially the Ray Watts Family Grove sign.

Oh, the sign won't be there long.

The cherry trees in Washington, DC, given by the government of Japan, survived the anger and vitriol following Pearl Harbor so I hope these will survive our own time of despair. Perhaps it would be a good thing to plant even more of them so those few don't stick out so much.

To be fair, they didn't give us the trees the day after bombing Pearl Harbor.

But there were many who thought it a good idea to cut them down in the heat of that period. Today I know we are glad we didn't. They draw many visitors to the Capitol every spring. Perhaps we can do the same for our campus.
Just had a thought -What if we could plant a memorial "Alan Ogg" cherry tree, and a "Torry Ward" cherry tree not to mention a "Gene Bartow (cherry tree) Grove" of his own. B'ham adopted the Crape Myrtle some years ago as the "city tree" so maybe we could go in that direction with the city's participation.

I'm not advocating vandalizing the trees with permanent damage. But, I think the reality is that it will attract vandalism so we should pass resolutions to postpone them. And until (if) we make peace with Ray, those trees can and should be a focal point and reminder of why not to side with the oligarchs and think you can buy your reputation.

The trees don't need to be vandalized even in a non permanent way. Leave them alone. Don't give the other side ammo.

Are we not allowed to have spirit? If students put bubbles in the fountain after a win or rolled a tree nobody would give a crap.

That's only allowed if it's related to the medical school.

If it's real - and I still have a hard time believing this - then Liar's Grove will be a natural rallying point for anti-Watts and anti-Trustee protests.

Is it a coincidence that a Yoshino Cherry tree's blossoms are crimson and white? I think not!

The trees can't sustain themselves. I hope the next president has them dug up and given to poor people for fire wood

We could find out when they plan to break ground on the grove and stage a protest/ rally. That's not vandalism. We could stand in front of the heavy equipment and block them for a little bit. Peaceful, not damaging, makes the point.
