Smart actually. Better RPI value for that.

They didn't get a choice...

@OSU
@Memphis
@Grambling
UT-Austin

Mike White set that up.

Still doesn't refute the idea that it's a better rpi value. If you have to play that crap team better to get 1.3 "wins" than 0.7.

Also better chance of losing...

If you're worried about losing to Grambling home or away, then you're looking at a crappy season overall.

NJIT's claim to fame is that they beat Michigan last year.

Here's last years records and RPI of the home schedule:
Oklahoma RPI=20, (24-11)
La Tech RPI=45, (26-9)
Ole Miss RPI=57, (21-13)
NJIT RPI=134, (17-12)
Manhattan RPI=174, (19-14)
Texas Arlington RPI=179, (15-15)
Southern RPI=228, (15-17)
IUPUI RPI=258, (10-21)
SEMO RPI=282, (11-17)
So Miss RPI=283, (7-20)
Grambling RPI=351, (0-27)

La Tech and Ole Miss should drop this year. Ole Miss will probably stay top 100 by virtue of being in the SEC (only 4 of the 14 teams were above 100 last year) but we are likely to only have 2 top 100 RPI games at home. Both Ohio State (neutral) and South Carolina (road) were top 100 RPI teams last year. There's a bunch of boat anchors on there.

No kidding.

Grambling averaged 52 points a game last year, dead last. Opponents averaged 73. They won 2 games last year both to D2 schools.

Like with Ok State, Ou will be a REALLY good team, but from a ticket buying perspective, they won't carry the cache of an average person just dying to buy a ticket to get into the building. USM and Manhattan...if they are being propped up a games to entice ticket holders then woof. USM was 9-20 last year, has the NCAA in their business and lost three of their top scorers. Manhattan finished third in their conference last year and loses their leading scorer/rebounder.

Ole Miss is a nice regional game, but they are going to be pretty down this year and I wouldn't expect a lot of OM fans (mean 1-2K) to come to the game.

There's not really much the coach or AD can do, but I will cringe a little over the next few months when I'm told by the staff how awesome the home OOC schedule is and Manhattan, OM and USM are used as examples.

I agree wholeheartedly. If the Tigers are a tournament-caliber team, the OU game is about the only exciting non-conference HOME game on the schedule.

After losing Louisville last year, the AAC is only getting worse. UCONN should be better this year, and we will see about Cincinnati. But the rest of the conference is pretty much blah. Temple and SMU don't get most people fired up.

All that said, first thing is first: Memphis needs to make the tournament this year and get back on track before worrying about marquee home games. They will have enough overall opportunities to get good wins.

Then you two shouldn't buy tickets...moving on...

Do you have season tix or do your relatives own tix that they give to you?

Easy to talk the talk when the money isn't coming out of your pocket.

If you do own season tix, kudos. I just see you on this board a lot scooping up free tix or talking about your club seats, which (based on other stuff you share) can't imagine you are paying for those seats out of your own bank account.

That's where the rubber meets the road for many people.

I buy a football season ticket. There would be no point for hoops as there is no way I could get all those dates off to attend. I normally pick a handful of games based on my schedule, and DVR the rest.

We're talking the dead last team in D1. Went 0-27 last year. If one can't make a calculated decision that a top 100 team can "steal" a road win there, then no one can help you.

So you drop $55 a year for football and $0 for basketball yet chastise people for not renewing BB season tickets when they don't feel the value meets the product.

Interesting.

I don't go to games to calculate, I go to games to watch my Tigers play...moreover, I don't want help from miserables.

Interesting.

Nope, I spend a lot more than that on football.

Moreover, one does not need to buy a season ticket to spend money on tickets...last season I mostly sat in the Lower Level or box seats...those are not inexpensive seats.

Yup.

It doesn't take a lot of ciphering to add some games that won't be rpi anchors. I personally think the RPI is bullsiht but since that is the game that is played, you need to play it right.

Lose some of those anchors (lordy WHY USM of all years?) and fill in with Chattanooga, N. Florida, James Madison, Albany, William and Mary or those types. All would be top 100-150 rpi team with a chance to win their conf tourney and still be (on paper) easy enough home wins.

Those 100-150 RPI games aren't guaranteed wins for Pastner. He likes to pad his win total beating up on the 150's and below.

I have never understood the scheduling. If you are going to play a no name (i.e. team you can't name the mascot) you might as well play one that traditionally has a decent RPI. It is much better to play 6 under 100 RPI teams and go 2-4 than to play 2 and go 0-2. Substitute Davidson (42), Wofford (49), Iona (55) and Toledo (75) and you could easily have a 4-2 top 100 schedule. It's really not rocket science. I am just not sure why it's the same every year.

Plus the other factor that you aren't going to get better as a team by playing bad teams although it might seem that way at the time.

RPI doesn't matter when everyone has good players who are well coached by dear friends.

The days of getting home and homes with the "big boys" is becoming harder and harder. Seems like they all want to play at home or at neutral sites.

That's where the rubber meets the road for many people.

most on here that claim to have season tickets don't.

I kept my donation the same, but lowered the tickets I bought. University needs basketball to fund the other sports. And, since I was a beneficiary of a scholarship for one of those other sports, I continue to give back.

I'm not a fan of our coach, I'm a fan of the school. I'll root my team on either way, cuss him when he loses and be happy when he wins.

That doesn't work too well in Bellevue Baptist Sec. 214. You can't simply tell them you've been disfellowshipped and have them leave you alone. You'll be their mission the rest of the season.
