Secret ACC/SEC/ESPN Meeting Hypothetical
It's July 1, 2015. SEC Commissioner Michael Slive (in his last month), ACC Commissioner John Swofford, and ESPN President John Skipper get together for a secret meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to eliminate the BIG 12 by conducting a draft. Both commissioners must take at least four schools. Assuming that Texas will only go ACC, the ACC gets the first pick of Texas.

Here is how I could see it going:

1) Texas - ACC
2) Oklahoma - SEC
3) Kansas - ACC
4) Texas Tech - SEC
5) Texas Christian - ACC
6) West Virgina - SEC
7) Oklahoma State - ACC
8) Kansas State - SEC
9) Baylor - ACC (Texas makes them do it)
10) SEC Pass

Swofford then calls Jack Swarbrick and gives him the option - forever independent or number 20
10) Notre Dame - ACC (Sorry Iowa State)

ACC Additions
University of Texas
University of Kansas
Texas Christian University
Oklahoma State University
Baylor University
Notre Dame

SEC Additions
University of Oklahoma
Texas Tech University
West Virginia University
Kansas State University

Undrafted
Iowa State University

How do you see the draft going?

Why should the ACC draft first and why should a school accept such a draft; IE, if Texas gets drafted by the SEC (for arguments sake), what's stopping them from saying "f*ck the SEC, we're going to the B1G!"

The ACC drafts first based on my perception of I read on this board and others. Texas wants to go east (no to PAC12), not follow aTm (no to SEC), and join with friends and have a voice (No B1G). That leaves the ACC so they become the first pick by default.

As for saying no, other than Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, I assume the ACC or SEC would be happy to see five others going to the PAC or B1G. This was more of an exercise to see how the two might divide up the conference (at least 8) in an agreed format.

I may be wrong, but I think the death of the Big 12 is tremendous speculation that I doubt will happen.

RE: Secret ACC/SEC/ESPN Meeting Hypothetical
I enjoy the expansion scenarios, but with nothing having happened in several years, we've gotten back to the point where our discussions for the short term have gotten very far from reality (we seem to do that every time we get years between moves).

People imagine there is extra money by getting rid of the Big 12, but there really isn't. If you get Texas and maybe Oklahoma, your overall payments rise, but that seems about it (and that's not true if you need to pick up 3 or 4 others along the way). Your playoff appearances might rise, but so do your mouths to feed from the playoff money.

The Big 12 conference itself would have to be part of these discussions itself if you wanted this to work. Legally, I don't think it would unless they were. Even if you could get all 10 schools taken care of (good luck trying to convince other conferences who aren't getting Texas to help), you would still have FOX to sue in that set-up.

Also, Notre Dame would choose independence in any scenario and it's not even questionable to me.

Playing along though, I'd say the following: (I'm going with the rules that all 10 must be taken, and it's a free lottery where they don't have to worry about schools pushing things).
1. Texas (ACC)
2. Oklahoma (SEC)
3. Kansas (ACC)
4. West Virginia (SEC)
5. Texas Tech (ACC)
6. Oklahoma State (SEC)
7. TCU (ACC)
8. Baylor (SEC)
9. Kansas State (ACC)
10. Iowa State (SEC)

I would hope that Jack picks option A---forever independent.

This is fantasy Island stuff. We have yet to see any 2 conf working together on expansion. It won't happen now either.

I don't see the B12 going anywhere. If they get hit again it will be piecemeal, and they will have time to reload.

Why would we want Baylor, TCU, OSU, or Kansas?

I'll take Texas and could be talked into OU, but that's pretty much it.

This makes me wonder if perhaps someone is confusing collusion with "colloidal suspension"?

So if the SEC drafts its way to 19, who is number 20? Could the SEC take Nebraska from the B1G? Would it promote a G5 like UCF, ECU, or Cincinnati?

I think the most likely scenario for Big 12 to dissolve is

B1G takes Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and one more from the three Texas schools.

ACC and SEC will negotiate separately with West Virginia, Oklahoma State. The two schools will go to the same conference, either ACC or SEC.

These schools will not be drafted. Mountain West and AAC will be reshuffled after adding the four.

TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor (one of the three will go to B1G upon Texas' request, most likely the one in Dallas to minimize traveling cost), Iowa State, Kansas State.
