And yet you're the only one who keeps bringing it up. Look at the main page. There are more LaTech random threads than anything and nothing about us. In fact, a Marshall fan started this thread knowing we would be ranked in the middle at best. Jesus, just stfu. Not sure where your math is but I was actually charting it myself and had WKU with something like 138 points, a few points above Rice.

Maybe you did it based on Tournament Results? SBC only used Regular Season results unless it was a sport like golf, tennis, etc., that only had a year-ending tournament.

I really can't argue with you on methodology. As I said my method was simplified from what I saw on the SBC site and I don't stand by its appropriateness as a ranking system.

I generated this more for the discussion on all sports awards, in general, and overall, relative performance, than I did to be an absolute ranking. Although, I'm pretty sure I did use the regular season, unless there was ONLY a year ending tournament.

(Post Season Championships are NOT included unless this was the only way to determine a ranking -- example Track and Field/Swimming & Diving. In Basketball, Baseball and Softball, post season tournaments are not included.)

So, having far too much time on my hands awaiting football, I did a simple spread sheet of all C-USA Sports, using a system similar to the SBC. Using football as an example, 13 teams participated in football. So 13 points were awarded to the team with the best record, 12 to the second team, etc. When all sports were accounted for these were then totaled across all sports to get the TOTAL PERFORMANCE SCORES shown below. Performance shown on the C-USA site is where records came from.

Using this formula, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky share in the top all sports performance for the Academic Year 2014-2015.

Middle Tennessee 127
Western Kentucky 127
Rice 110
UTEP 108
UTSA 104
North Texas 98
Charlotte 91
Marshall 84
Old Dominion 83
UAB 77
LaTech 75
Southern Miss 74
FAU 70
FIU 61

There is probably a very good reason why we don't do this kind of thing, and I'm sure you'll tell me why. But, hopefully, this meager attempt to rank all sports performance will generate some lively discussion anyway on the relative performance of each member school.

Because it makes you look small time.

Small time, eh?

Someone should tell the SEC.

If you want to make it about popularity, just add up total attendances. To heck with how a team did, how many paid to watch it do it.

If it is about athletic success within the conference, this format is fine.

I would add separate rankings for men's and women's sports as well as the overall ranking.

I'd be fine with separate awards for men and women. Commissioner would have two events. Gives the Conference two promotional moments!

Hmm...trying to see where we differentiated. Did you split points for Ties and Co-Champs? For instance, in Volleyball, UTSA and WKU were co-champs in a sport with only 13 participants. So they split the top two point totals, 13+12=25/2=12.5 points?

Or in a sport likes Men's Soccer with a bunch of non-member schools participating?

Didn't split points and didn't consider members beyond the 14 core members.

The problem with these "All Sports Trophies" are that they are heavily weighted to benefit athletic programs that excel at badminton, checkers, chess, tennis, golf, Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Canasta, and other such nonsense. 03-lmfao

Seriously, these "bubba polls" are only worthwhile if the sports are WEIGHTED properly. In college athletics, Football and men's basketball scores should represent over 70% of any final score in a poll like this simply because those two sports typically generate the overwhelming amount of revenues and publicity the schools receive for their respective athletic programs.

It's called a ALL SPORTS award for a reason and in that reason it doesn't say most popular. And in a sense it is weighted. You would get a point for each conference school playing that sport and while I don't know the makeup in numbers for all CUSA sports...

we know everyone plays football and basketball so those sports would get you the maximum amount of points. Where if say softball only had 7 members the max you can get is 7 points.

What a all sports awards really shows is who is most stable and support all their programs. That's not always the case but over the years if you looked at muts and Western budgets you could see both schools show they are usually more stable....money/budget wise than other schools in the conference.

But again it's called a all sports award for a reason

So, be honest: Would you rather have 4 CUSA championships in Softball with none in football? Or would you rather have 1 CUSA football championship and none in softball?

The defense RESTS, your honor. 04-cheers

As does the SEC.

I'll bet that every year a lot more people know who won the SEC football and basketball titles than which SEC schools won the All-Sports trophy. That's how how important this ranking is. 03-lmfao

Don't forget sailing.

I would rather have 4 C-USA Championships in both Softball and Football over the next 4 Seasons. I enjoy all of our Athletic teams to perform at a high level. I want to contend for every C-USA Championship in every sport we participate in.

RE: C-USA All Sports for 2014/2015
We all know that football (especially) and basketball are the revenue earners. But that doesn't diminish the accomplishments of athletes in other sports. I try to come out and support our teams in other sports also when I can. I guess I just like to see how we stack up across the board as opposed to just in two sports. I'm also proud of how we fare overall because aside from our new track stadium, soccer field, and the Alamodome, our facilities are subpar when compared to other C-USA schools; basketball and baseball are especially horrible. Our athletic budget is also closer to the bottom of the conference than it is to the top, 9th according to one source (although Rice's budget wasn't disclosed and I'd have a hard time believing their athletic budget isn't also bigger than ours). So I think we hold our own considering. I believe ODU and Marshall were #1 and #2 in athletic budgets, at least in 2012, and according to a guy who covers ODU. I don't know what the current numbers are.

At any rate, we won the Commissioner's Cup in our only year in the WAC (Idaho and Utah State being 2nd and 3rd). Prior to that, we won it in two of our last 5 years in the Southland and finished 3rd or higher in each of our last 8 years there.

Am I the only one finding irony in calling it the "offseason" when there are still spring sport NCAA championships let to be decided? It's only the offseason for football and men's basketball centric thinking.

No sweat, it's okay if your actions confirm your mindset that football and basketball are all that matter in college sports. It's a tough perception to fight.

Semantics.

How many threads do we have on this board right now about remaining spring sports?
