Georgia Tech expands Technology Square
Now that they've crossed the interstate they just keep gobbling up real estate moving back toward midtown. In another few decades mid-town will be nothing but Georgia Tech, corporate HQ skyscrapers with low level retail, and condo/apartment skyscrapers with low level retail.

Quote:The Georgia Institute of Technology received approval to proceed with the high performance computing center lease agreement during today’s meeting of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. This step follows the recent selection to move forward with Portman Holdings as the project developer for Georgia Tech’s expansion of Technology Square.

The proposed 750,000-gross-square-foot, mixed-use project will be located between Spring Street and West Peachtree Street near the Scheller College of Business and the Georgia Tech Hotel in Midtown Atlanta. Georgia Tech will serve as an anchor tenant, taking approximately one-half of the new development. The remaining space will be available for corporate entities and partners. The Institute plans to locate academic and leading-edge research programs in computing and advanced big data analytics there.

Tech should have never crossed the Connector. If they needed more real estate the Institute should have purchased Techwood Homes and the surrounding area when it was razed or expanded northward into Home Park back in the 90's before that neighborhood became trendy intown living.

This is where the sports fans and the university development have different vision- the outreach into midtown is outstanding to. Broaden the urban university into corporate Atlanta - wonderful vision -and they are doing wonderful outreach like many research technology universities - the revenue streams there are much more significant than athletics -

Many other schools are doing that- key from athletic dept leadership to ensure their goals are integrated with university strategy - ensuring their goals and objectives are sync together - that's the job of the ad and making sure the support staff follows-
