RE: Calipari - goal wasn't winning championship but getting 8 drafted (Memphis 2008?)

Like somehow Cal makes players better players, as opposed to a year or two under Coach K, or Izzo, or Williams, or Boeheim, or name any one of about 100 other coaches.
He is a great recruiter. He is a great marketer. He is an average (at best) coach.
Yet, this guy shovels the garbage and most folks gobble it up and ask for seconds.
You must have a unique definition of "coach".
In the real world, THE #1 attribute of a coach is the ability to effectively communicate a message. Cal is a great coach. He just works for someone else, which is fine with me. There are other great coaches out there.
Cal is a great communicator/leader without question, I think his basketball knowledge about the offensive end of the floor is less than some other coaches but the overall package he brings makes him worth the money he is being paid.
When competing against equal talent Cal will struggle, but he doesn't have to worry about that because he is such a great recruiter.
Hmmm....Memphis had equal talent vs. UCLA in 2008? The FF UMass team had equal talent over all the team they beat to get there?
We could play that game with a lot of top coaches.
Coach K has never taken a Duke team seeded 3 or worse beyond the S16. He's had several 2 seeds bow out early the past few years. He's failed to reach his seeding 7 of the last 10 years in the NCAAt, but no one is going to argue he can't coach, yet those metrics about talent not meeting expectations are clearly evident.

I agree completely. One other thing to add. Coach K's recruits often don't succeed right away and he gets to keep them a year longer than Cal does. Cal is a great coach in every aspect.
