Or 4 and 1.

The streak is dead. The conference streak will probably die next year.

Yeah, unless something changes fast, we are probably going to top out at 35 or 36.

This is such a depressing outcome since it is totally the result of an amazing and outrageous number of errors! Can we get some sort of counseling for such a head case??

FYI: Our current winning percentage -- 35/55 = .636 -- is a skosh higher than that in our 40-win year of 2010 (40/63 = .635). And our current 20 losses is equal to three -- and less than four -- of these 40-year seasons.

It's surely more difficult to get 40 wins when play fewer regular-season games.

1995-98: 62-65 games
1999-2007: 74 games in 1999. 4 years of 70 games, one of 67, two of 66 and one of 64.
Since 2008: 61-64 games.

RE: 40 game streak
The 40-win streak, while significant, is far less meaningful than the conference championship or post-season participation streaks; particularly on the national level. The 40-win milestone is a means to an end; whereas conference championships and post-season births are primary goals and aspirations for each season. No one is even remotely close to us with now our 20th consecutive conference championship, and I believe we have the third longest post-season streak nationally, behind only CSF and Miami.

RE: 40 game streak
More impressive might be 9 years of fewer than 20 losses from 2002 to 2009

Their were 5 cws trips in that period

We have lost more than 20 all but one year since with zero trips to cws

Looks like slippage

RE: 40 game streak
I am beginning to wonder if the "Rice is cool" mantle for elite baseball players is off us now and has moved on to places like TCU and DBU. Years ago, prior to TCU and DBU having new stadiums, Rice was getting most of the elite players, particularly pitchers, that were needed to routinely go to the CWS. The ESU's were still getting more than their share, but Rice was getting enough of them to totally dominate most other schools. Now, not so much. It seems there is much more parity now. I recall years ago, and perhaps it continues to this day, in Fort Worth there were very definitely cool grocery stores and laundromats, and cool churches for young singles to go to. Those were the places where all the popular singles hung out. And depending on the amenities at those places and a bunch of other intangibles, the the cool spots would shift almost overnight. Word would get around, they would remain trendy for a season, then they would become old hat as soon as the wind changed. That seems to be how it is with people in general, but even moreso with young folks.

Try again. This past incoming class was our best recruiting class in a number of years, and featured the most Top 200 players we have ever brought in in the same season.

RE: 40 game streak
Pitching was good this year. A few slip ups, but it's a long season. Hitting was up and down but was often enough offense for us to win. I didn't feel like we were out talented very often this season. It's the errors. I agree with what Walt said, I think errors cost us 10 games this year. Yes I know that means we could have had a 10 loss season, but there were plenty of times this team looked that good this year, except for the crazy amount of errors. I don't what to attribute that to, a young team?

My count is 11 games. Errors and wild pitches cost us 3 wins in just the past two weeks, and 4 of our 5 losses to UT, Stanford and Arizona were 100% attributable to miscues. That's 7 losses right there. Then you can add:

- The 2nd ODU loss (5 unearned runs + another on wild pitch in a 8-9 loss)
- The USM loss (3 unearned runs + WP in 1-5 loss)
- The MTSU loss (2 early unearned runs in a 4-7 loss)
- The UTSA loss (3 early unearned runs in a 1-7 loss)
