RE: al.com: Booster Jimmy Filler feels "whole lot better" about UAB football...
I believe that Watts lied to Jimmy Filler on at least one point. It is inconceivable to me that Watts has not made his mind up and I believe he is just waiting for the right time to announce his decision. That was probably going to be Friday evening but recent activity has put a hitch in his plans. His PR firm probably told him that under the circumstance it would be best to meet with all his constituents before announcing his decision and he would only be doing that if he didn't plan to bring back football. You don't have to meet with anybody if you're going to give all of them what they want. However, this gives us more time to affect that ultimate outcome.

Now it is possible that his mind could be changed given the right circumstances, like getting a call from certain trustees, but I cannot believe that he doesn't have a dang good idea of what he's going to do. He pull this cr@p last time saying that the decision had not been made and yet we know that the decision was made at least three months earlier and was delayed at suggestion of Bill Carr and the PR firm.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Guys who walk into a University president's office and drop down a multi-million dollar guarantee didn't get to that place of influence by being gullible.

No idea what Jack may be up to, but the VP Fury is very real.

Over the upcoming decision on the three sports, or other issues?

Yes, and yes. Brewing for a very long time. This has just brought it out.

I'm curious about how the wealthy business people in the city look at the this situation. Are people that would give more inclined to do so because they see the tyranny and how their commitment would make a difference or do they just throw their hands up and say I'm done with all this drama?

Well Jack went from saying a no football decision was imminent to saying he thinks football will be back on JOX this afternoon. This momentum could pay dividends in bringing in other big donors over the next few days.

Just a WAG but could Filler have told Darth Watts here's $X mill, deny it at your own risk having already got a lot of other stakeholders in pocket as well as certain local city/county business/political folks & some BOT people who agree it's time to end this & step back from the edge? Does Watts pull the missiles out of Cuba or does he push the red button???

IMO the supposed June 1st decision. I think this was a well played strategic move.

I'm not wealthy, but I know some of them and have heard discussions about it. It's complex, because in most cases there is loyalty to the City, in some cases (a lot) they are Alabama alumni and loyalty there, and in many cases people are torn. It would be wrong to assume that all Alabama alumni are against this, I think most would like to see football, and believe it would be good for the city. I think there is significant business support for this. UAB had the luxury boxes sold out with the proposed stadium. That proves there is support. It will be more now.

I think a good analogy of what can be is the Barons. That franchise was treading water out there in Hoover. Now it is a model for baseball across the Country, all due to partnering with the city, and the business community. UAB Football can be the same thing.

Ray Watts is evil incarnate. I have no faith at all he will do the right thing, because Paul Satan Bryant Jr. has his strings.

Rep. Williams mentioned the stadium proposal on JOX and suggested that UAB might have to build a bigger stadium if we got football back. I like the sentiment, but I think an even better idea is the same number of seats, but more premium boxes. People watch sports more and more at home now, and the game is a social event. If we sold out all the boxes back then, I'd like to see how many boxes we can sell now that we've established UAB Football as part of the Birmingham long-term economic engine. The Barons are a great example, and University of Richmond recently did something similar with football and basketball: Decrease seats, increase demand and experience quality, sell tickets for more. Some of those boxes should be in a building overlooking a spill-over green where the fans are sitting in the grass and kids are running around (or standing-room only when we are playing for the C*USA championship).

Hopefully, these meetings over the next week will be about blackmail and exposure.

There are no doubt many more Kahn and Bruno types of stories that haven't seen the light of day. Many stories that involve people higher up the food chain. Those carrot's may prove to help in the struggle or the nuclear option will will proceed.

Play dirty my friends.

It's ironic that in order to save UAB from the tyranny of the evil BOT, people will have to result to "blackmail type behavior". I say it's ironic because of "Clean" Gene and his legacy.

So this is based on Mr. Filler's conversation with Ray-Ray ? I won't believe football is really coming back until stadium construction starts.
