You have to think this is the Hail Mary to save UAB. I think Rep Williams is a strong UAB supporter and is in the know. Stinks for UAB fans if true.

Some of Watts' Senior VPs and a couple of Board members are against him this time but he doesn't care. He's got cajones, I'll give him that.

That's just nuts because the board will end up firing him to appease the Birmingham contingent.

I'm not hopeful he will be fired. Trustees are smart though so they could be setting him up.

UAB fans would need to chime in. However, if the conspiracy theorists are correct. This would appear to be the following steps.

1. Watts will not re-instate
2. Clark Resigns
3. CUSA kicks USA out June 30th 2016
4. UAB goes to a new basketball conference
5. UA BOT advises Watts to retire July 1st, 2016 with a Golden Parachute. Ensuring UAB could not be ready for football or join a football conference even with a new president that supports adding football. Making the earliest 2018.

I had a feeling this is where things were headed from the moment it was announced the report would only be part of the basis for the decision and that the final decision would be announced on the web site with no press conference. Add in the decision being announced on a long weekend Friday and you have the classic "bad news dump" scenario.

Probably---but Im sure there are assurances coming from the crooked Bama BOD that he will be "taken care of". He will end up at some small high end academic private school that doesn't play big time sports where their administration will probably like the fact that he dumped football.

Since UAB will not received revenue from CUSA by staying one more year, they will join a new conference this June.

Is there any indication that UAB's expulsion is effective this year or next? If it is this year, the Blazers will have a tough time getting a schedule together, especially for the fall sports.

Most seem to think C-USA will keep us one more year.

He's doing what he was put there to do. Just a hatchet man. I don't think there's really any disagreement on the Board.

If it happens this way then I just don't understand Watts' thinking. If he was dead set on folding football, via instructions from the BOT, why did he bother with another study when his first one was all he needed? All that did, if indeed football is still dropped, was give UAB fans hope and a chance to show what they can do regarding raising funds, etc. Makes no sense to me because the initial decision was bad enough but now it looks really stupid to drop football with all the support that has come forward.

The old CUSA TV contract has one more year so that would make sense.

That would give CUSA some more time in finding a replacement and for UAB to actively look around.

Unless, the candidates available wouldn't make a difference in which case there is no need to wait to find a candidate that move the meter of sorts. Really, that are no candidates that would increase CUSA worth. Its just more of finding a western division school to even out the divisions.
