The only thing I dont undertand about all this is the wording in part of his article that seems to imply ( saying 2 reports debunk the idea ) that the decision to kill football occurred before the report ( Carr I assume ) was completed was incorrect. I think that most of the evidence that has been bantered about online and in the press is suggestive that the decision had indeed been made to kill it before the Carr report was seemingly finalized.

No, it's saying the Carr report was debunked by the two subsequent reports and that the evidence suggests that the decision was made before the Carr report.

Quote:Perhaps unsurprisingly, news reports in Alabama indicate that the decision to cancel the sport likely preceded the report used to justify it—a report that has now been thoroughly debunked by two second opinions.

I had to read that sentence a couple of times before I understood what he meant. It read like BlazerDawg took it at first.

Just as everyone knew, the Carr numbers were cooked up and served to Watts, most likely by Watts and the UABOT.
Both Watts and the UABOT should be ashamed of themselves for making UAB look like fools. Well the FOOLS are DR. Watts and the UABOT!

Its confusing bc it uses the word report twice...here's how I read it (with parenthesis added):

There's no way to read the CSS report critically and conclude that a UAB administration focused on maximizing the school's overall health would remain obstinate in its opposition to football. Perhaps unsurprisingly, news reports in Alabama indicate that the decision to cancel the sport likely preceded the (Carr)report used to justify it—a (the Carr) report that has now been thoroughly debunked by two second opinions.

I think he's saying the carr report, not the news reports, have been debunked

I'm certain the decision to eventually kill UAB football was made by the system BOT over a decade ago, but they had to wait for a cooperative UAB President and the present state educational funding climate. Whenever one group has absolute power, they can use any evidence that is available to do what they want to do.
